One-Hour Technology Workshop

ITEC 7460 Professional Learning & Technology Innovation, Spring 2015
Implementation Narrative
Using the Google Classroom in the high school setting has become a way to
enhance student learning, ensure differentiation, and improve overall classroom
management. This one-hour technology workshop was designed to demonstrate the most
efficient ways to implement the Classroom for maximum results. Google Classroom
demonstrations during this workshop included the initial Classroom set-up, posting or
replying to notes on the Stream, creating assignments, quizzes, and grading/returning
items to students. A few weeks prior, the instructor began to promote the workshop with
an initial email with a flyer attached to ensure participant attendance. At the start of the
workshop, ten teachers were in attendance. As participants entered the computer lab, the
workshop agenda was displayed on the interactive whiteboard screen.
After a brief discussion regarding the importance of the Google Classroom,
participants were instructed to navigate to the workshop Weebly website to view the
workshop agenda. The instructor discussed the agenda and then navigated through a
brief overview of the workshop website. After the overview of the website, the
participants were instructed to log in to their Google account. Using the interactive
whiteboard, the instructor demonstrated how to find the Google Classroom to begin the
class set-up. The YouTube video of setting up the Classroom was shown to enhance the
learning. Participants learned how to change the classroom theme, invite students to join
class, mute students, turn notifications on/off, etc. Participants also learned how to post

or reply to notes to the Stream, post assignments, grade and return assignments. The
instructor gave participants 15 to 20 minutes for hands on practice of these features.
While participants were practicing, the instructor answered questions and walked around
to help any participants who had issues. The instructor also provided handouts to
participants for additional information about grading and returning assignments.
The last 20 minutes of the workshop included a demonstration of how to create a
quiz in Google Forms to post as an assignment in the Classroom. A YouTube video
demonstration as well as handouts are provided on the workshop website. Participants
are given time to practice creating questions in Google Forms.
At the end of the one-hour workshop, participants were asked to complete the
evaluation survey located on the workshop website that was created using Google Forms.
