Neglected Tropical Diseases

Purpose of the Assignment

To assimilate the information learned in this course to describe an example of a
successful health initiative worldwide that has had an impact on the health of vulnerable
populations ( i.e women, children, elderly, disabled).
Approach to the Assignment
I researched common worldwide diseases and discovered that most were due to parasites,
contaminated environments and poor health of the affected population.
Reason for Inclusion
This assignment was included as an example of a discussion board post and serves to
educate classmates on organizations worldwide that combat disease caused by parasites.
Culture

Maintains an awareness of global environmental factors that may influence the

delivery of health care services.

This discussion board post illustrates the effect that living conditions and availability of
low cost methods to control tropical disease can have on a global community. More than
1 billion people, almost one-sixth of the worlds population (CDC, 2104), suffer from one
or more neglected tropical diseases.

Considers the impact of research outcomes and the effects of health and social
policies on persons from diverse backgrounds.

Neglected tropical disease affect all cultures and communities across the globe. Research
has shown that treatment with mass drug administration was effective in combating
health problems associated with infection.
