Week 6. Titration Repeat

Choose one experiment from the first four to repeat. Your score on the repeated experiment will
replace the original score for that experiment. You MUST repeat one experiment.

BE SURE YOUR LEGS AND FEET ARE COVERED
You must repeat the entire experiment. None of the data from before is valid. Use the original
instructions with the following changes. If the instructions call for you to share burets with a
partner, find a partner repeating the same experiment.
ANSWER THE APPROPRIATE PRE-LAB QUESTIONS AGAIN.
Experiment #1
The acid and base will have different concentrations this week. Otherwise, proceed as before.
Experiment #2
The unknown solid will be a white powder. Weigh (not less than 0.1000 g), transfer to the
titration flask, and add water. Otherwise, perform the experiment as before.
Experiment #3
Everything is the same, except the weak acid will be solid KHP. Transfer at least 0.3 g (weigh
accurately) to the titration beaker (rather than 10 mL of unknown liquid). Proceed as before.
Determine Veq, but dont worry about the original concentration of the acid (since it is a solid).
Instead, use Veq to determine the concentration of NaOH. This should agree with your
standardized value observed in Part I. Calculate: moles KHP (from mass) moles NaOH
[NaOH] (using Veq). Repeat a second time with a new 0.3 g of KHP.
Experiment #4
Everything is the same, except the commercial products will be different. Choose opposite from
your choice last week (solid base liquid acid, or liquid base solid acid).
BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE LABORATORY:
a) Have the TA initial your lab notebook, and leave the notebook with the TA for grading.
b) Hand the TA the printouts requested in the experiment procedure.
c) Clean your lab bench and the balance areas. Wash all counter tops. Clean and return all
glassware. Clean the balances. 1 point deduction if your area is found to be untidy in any
way.
