SOL: VS.7a, b, c SWBAT identify the events and difference between northern and southern
states that divided Virginians and led to secession, war, and the creation of West Virginia.
Hook: What is the Civil War?
Students will work in partners, using their notes and textbooks, to being completing
study guide. Students will use binders (old study guides and tests) to complete review
questions.

Day 4

Criteria: With partners, students will complete the study guide with 90%
accuracy.

Tuesday

SOL: VS.7a, b c SOL: VS.7a, b, c SWBAT identify the events and difference between
northern and southern states that divided Virginians and led to secession, war, and the
creation of West Virginia.
Hook: When and where did the Civil War end?
Students will work in partners, using their notes and textbooks, to finish completing
study guide. Students will use binders (old study guides and tests) to complete review
questions.
TW check through answers with students to make sure they are correct.
SOL Pass activities to review for test.

Day 5

Wednesday

Criteria: With partners, students will complete the study guide with 90%
accuracy.
SOL: VS.7a, b c SWBAT identify the events and difference between northern and southern
states that divided Virginians and led to secession, war, and the creation of West Virginia.
Civil War Test- SW complete IA test independently.
Criteria: Independently, students will complete IA test on Civil War with 80%
accuracy (100% after corrections.)

Day 6

Thursday

VS. 8a SWBAT demonstrate knowledge of the reconstruction of Virginia following the Civil
War by: identifying the effects of Reconstruction on life in Virginia.
Hook: What would be problems Virginians would have faced after the Civil War?
Read from Horizons pgs. 202-203; TW guide students through reading; SW discuss what
reconstruction means and the problems faced by Virginians during reconstruction. SW fill
in their note page with information from the text and what students discussed.

Day 1

Criterion: With guidance, students will read and discuss Reconstruction &
problems Virginians faced; they will fill in their note page with 100% accuracy.

Friday

VS. 8a SWBAT demonstrate knowledge of the reconstruction of Virginia following the Civil
