Australia

Moderate climate variation with some extreme changes. Northern

Australia has an area known as the monsoon belt. This area has a dry
season that is observed from April to September and a wet season
observed from October to March. The Southern half of the continent
has more seasonality, with cold winters and warm to hot summer days.
The central part of the continent is hot during the day and chilly at
night.

Africa
Africa has a harsh environment with areas of extreme dryness, and
flooding rains. The Eastern part of Africa experiences dry conditions
from December to February or March and again from June to October.
The time between these periods is considered the rainy season. West
Africa has a dry season that starts in October or November and lasts
until April or May. Southern Africa is hot from May to October and
rainfall from November to April.

North America
Due to its position between the Equator and the North Pole, North
America has a varied climate. The diverse climate zones include
tundra, ice caps, hot savanna and tropical rain forests. The interior of
the continent features desert regions with a semi-arid climate
interrupted by mountains. Northern Alaska and Canada have sub-arctic
climates. Most of the continent has a temperate climate good for
agriculture.

South America
Ocean currents and wind currents impact the highly variable climate in
South Africa. It is generally hot and wet. The Amazon basin is hot and
wet with temperatures around 20C and 30C and the Andes remain
cold all year. South America has the highest recorded temperature of
43C and the highest annual rainfall of about 350 inches.

Antarctica

During the winter the amount of ice results in extreme cold and roundthe-clock darkness. Sunlight can be seen in November during the warm
summer season when ice begins to melt and birds reemerge for
courting. January and December is Austral summer that has 20 hours
of sunlight.

Europe
Europe experiences both hot and cold seasons. Westerly winds off the
Atlantic keep the continent warmer than other locations at similar
latitudes. In northern Europe winters are long and cold while summers
are cooler. Eastern Europe has similarly cold winters, but the summers
are significantly warmer than the west. The Mediterranean region has
hot, dry summers and mild but wet winters.

Asia
Asias location lends to a very dramatic climate. The southeast is wet
whereas the interior is generally dry. The western part of Asia is known
for extremely high temperatures while the eastern and southern areas
experience extreme monsoons. The coldest place in the Northern
hemisphere, Siberia, leads to formation of arctic air masses in North
America. Tropical cyclones are often found in the southeast portion of
Asia, between the Philippines and Japan.
