Russian Civil War (1917-1922)

The Russian Civil War was started in 1917 and ended in
1922. The war was started shortly after the Russian
Revolution. The war was fought between the red
army(Soviets) and the white army(Democracy supporters
and supporters of the czars rule). The white army will end
up losing the war primarily because the white army was no
as unified as the red army was because the white army had
people fighting that wanted two different things. When the
war was over the Soviet Union or the USSR was formed.
Lead and created by Lenin but Lenin will die soon after and
Stalin will come to power.

Russian Civil War (1917-1922)

Creation of the Politburo(1917)

The Politburo was the highest body of the communist party
in Russia. The word Politburo means Political Bureau. It was
created by Lenin as the head police making in the Soviet
Union.

Stalins Five Year Plans (1928)

In 1924 Stalin gets complete power as the new leader of the Soviet Union.
In 1928 Stalin puts his first five year plan into motion to try and
industrialize the Union as fast as possible. In this plan Stalin sets
impossible quotas for the production of steal, coal, and oil. Though the
quotas are not met the Union mad an incredible stride towards
industrialization producing more steal, coal, and oil that Russia ever had.
The second five year plan the intention was to now create collective farms
but the farm land owners were not willing to give up there land these
people will be known as Kulaks. The Kulaks decided that if they could not
have their land then no one can and they started destroying their crops and
killing their cattle. The Kulaks will then be imprisoned or executed.

Stalins Five Year Plans(1928)

World War 2 (1941-1945)

The Germans started WWII in 1940 but had a peace pact
with the Russians that was made so that both Russia and
Germany could build up their army's. Germany brakes the
pact in June of 1941. The Germans attack with 3 equal
armys. One army was to attack Moscow another attacks
Leningrad and the tiered attacks Stalingrad. These attacks
will devastate the USSR with thousands of deaths but
Russia will fight back and puss the Germans back when
winter comes and the Germans are dying from the could. By
the end of WWII over 20 million Russians will die the most
deaths of one nation in the war.

WWII

Joe I (1949)
Joe I was the first atomic bomb that Russia had developed.
Russia was able to create this replica of the fat man bomb
because of a spy named Klaus Fuchs who was involved with
in the Manhattan project. The Joe I had a yield of about 22
kilometers. The USSR will not test another Atomic bomb for
about two years.

The Hydrogen Bomb (1953)

The Russians tested their first H-Bomb in 1953 only a
couple of months after the US. Putting the U.S and the
USSR at a tie for the development of atomic weapons.

Warsaw Pact (1955)

Was a pact between Russia and the Satellite Nations in
witch they agreed to form a mutual defense organization
that put the Soviet Union in control of the armed forces in
the other membrane states.

Sputnik (1957)
Sputnik was the first man made satellite to orbit the earth.
The Sputnik satellite was the item that had started the raise
to space between the US and the USSR. Sputnik was
Russias way of getting other nations to look at it as a new
supper power in the world.

Laika and Sputnik II (1957)

Sputnik II was a satellite that inside of it had the first ever
living animal in space. Laika is the name of the animal.
Laika was a dog.

Creation of the Berlin Wall

(1961)
The Berlin wall was put up to keep east Berlin and west
Berlin separated because east Berlin was a communist
government and west Berlin was not a communist state.
The walls primary goal was to keep the eastern Berlin
people in and to keep them away from an state that had
freedom. People trying to escape from the east were shot
on sight.

The Invasion of Czechoslovakia

(1968)
The Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia because the
Czechoslovak people had been pushing for a change in the
government. The Soviets primary reason for the invasion
was to keep control of the Czechs.

Salt I (1972)
Salt I was the first talk/treaty to put limitations and rules on
some of the weapons that the SU and the US had. Also
both sides agreed to lower the amount of nuclear and
atomic bombs.

Salt II (1979)
The Salt II agreement was made so that both sides would
have an equal number of nuclear delivery vehicles, reduce
the number of the vehicles, and to restrict the amount of
these that could be produced.

Soviet-Afghan War (1979)

The Soviets enter Afghanistan because Afghanistan is in a
civil war with one half being Commonest and the other
half where the people who wanted a capitalist movement
and a democracy.

Gorbachev Leeds Russia (19851991)

Gorbachev pushed for a more democratic Russia and for a
decentralized economy. Gorbachev will ultimately led to
the braking up of the USSR. For this Gorbachev will win
the noble pace prize in 1990.

Glasnost (1985)
Glasnost means openness rightfully so because Glasnost
increased openness and transparence in government
institutions and activities in the Soviet Union.

Perestroika (1985)
Perestroika was a program of economic, political, and social
restructuring, became the unintended catalyst for
dismantling the totalitarian state.

Chernobyl Disaster (1986)

Was a catastrophic event in witch a nuclear reactor had
malfunctioned and exploded. This event will spread
radiation to near by areas and the areas are still not
inhabitable.

Fall of Berlin Wall (1989)

The falling of the Berlin Wall was the last thing needed to
cause the collapse of the USSR. The fall of the wall also
marked the reuniting of Germany. The people of Berlin
latterly brought the wall down them self's.

Lithuania and Latvia Protest

(1991)
Lithuania and Latvia protest to leave the USSR and to be
given their own nations witch will later that year be
recognized by all nation and allowed into the UN after
leaving the USSR.
