1. Why do you think that the 1872 Cavite Mutiny and the execution of the
GOMBURZA can be considered as turning points in Philippine history?
The 1872 Cavite Mutiny was used as a pretext to the eventual
execution and martyrdom of Fathers Mariano Gomes, Jose Burgos and
Jacinto Zamora. They are considered turning points in Philippine history
since they awakened feelings of rage and remonstration among
Filipinos. The Gomburzas execution inspired Dr. Jose Rizal to write his
second novel and also compelled him to pursue the idea of Philippine
independence and this sentiment was extended to other Filipinos as
well. The injustice further heightened Filipino nationalism, cultivated an
influx of revolutionary ideas, ushered Filipinos to campaign for reforms
and provoked secret movements to seek independence from the
foreign invaders. These events became the precursor to the Philippine
Revolution of 1896.
2. Cite one admiring quality of Paciano. Explain.
His integrity as a Filipino and as an individual who fought for
Filipino rights. He had a lot going on in during the time Rizal was in
Europe; still, he managed to send funds to his beloved brother and
supported his fight for Philippine freedom and democracy.

He was

tortured for information to implicate his younger brother yet, his

valiant spirit and strength of will never wavered. Even after the
martyrdom of Jose Rizal, he was still an important figure in the
revolution and Filipino cause. As a matter of fact, even when the US
offered him a military rank, he refused to assume the position and
instead retired to be a farmer and led a peaceful life in his own country.
