Journal #2: Outfoxed: Rupert Murdochs War on Journalism
The entire film, Outfoxed, is based on confronting the viewers of Fox News,
which obviously makes the viewers biased against the Fox News network. Rupert
Murdoch makes an attack on the network, pointing out ways that the network has made
viewers biased by framing or simply not telling the entire truth. The broadcasters and
interviewers point out specific information to sway viewers. It has been proven several
times over the years that people will believe just about anything they read, see or hear
(the media for example). This gives the media the upper hand to appeal to a certain
group of people and eventually allow the entire mass to believe the lies that are being fed
to them.
The video attacks this right wing network, focusing on virtually every point that is
wrong. Greenwald may have a good point that Fox News is a network that is distorted
and explosive, but they also dont point out anything good that this network has done for
its viewers, nothing worthy of praise, thus making the video about a biased network,
biased. Greenwald points out the insisting to talk about Republican topics only, telling
interviewees to literally shut up when they are saying something in contrast to what is
believed by Fox News as a whole. Bill ORiley has been criticized several times for his
harsh words towards the people he interviews. The yelling and rude remarks have left
people either interested to his truthfulness or appalled by his rudeness. Fox News,
according to this video, alters the truth to make situations sounds worse than they actually
are. For example, their over-exaggeration on Al-Qaida and the 9-11 attack scared people

about suicide bombs with their constant mention of the subject. Greenwald made the
comment in the video that they believe that he believes Fox News wants their viewers to
be in fear. They constantly bring up controversial topics, such as the political issues,
bombings, war, epidemics such as Ebola o in the past, Swine Flu. Its a never-ending
cycle of terrible topics.
This video allows its viewers to make a good firm decision based on their new
knowledge. It is extremely biased, attacking every part of the conservative,
informational, Fox News. However, after watching the equally biased Fox News
network, the viewer should definitely be able to make an informed opinion on whether
they will believe the information being given out by Fox News.
They mention at one point that the network is basically an attack on politics,
which should be left to a political campaign. However, these broadcasters are putting
their own Republican two cents into what they think about political issues, during past,
current, and future. They televise what they think about conservative events and bash the
Democrat ones. At one point a man says, Conservative dont have to win every
argument if they can muddy it enough, turn it into a draw, that to them is a victory
because it denies the other side. This comment on how the broadcasters on Fox News
twist information emphasize how they are able to alter the audiences view of the
opponent and even question the opponent, which to Fox News is the real achievement.
I think that both this video and Fox News are controversial and every person will
have a different opinion based on personal beliefs and views. Because of how we were
raised or what we were taught in school, every single person will find this video either
intriguing and truthful or hypocritical and biased. It is up to the viewers own discretion

to make their own opinions, but I believe that it is both. Greenwald makes a lot of good
points on his idea of what Fox stands for, but he goes against what he says about Fox
when he does the same thing by only pointing out the negative and nit picking
everything. Outfoxed was overall a very informative video.
