Week 5

Assessment Task
Task Description:

In groups of five allocated by the teacher students will work together to research, to research, collect,
represent, analyse and gather information surrounding deforestation and sustainable uses of the
environment. Though applying this knowledge, these groups will develop a 5-minute Oral Presentation
based on an organisation of their choice, what they are doing to resolve the negative impact humans are
having on the environment through deforestation in South America or Africa and why grade 4 should support
this organisations cause.

Assessment Requirements:

For this assessment students are expected to:
Develop and answer an inquiry question that outlines what the groups presentation focus area is and
what research they will be required to collect.
Map out the area that they have decided to focus on in either South America or Africa; highlighting
the area being impacted by deforestation and a comparison of what the areas looked like a few years
ago to what the area looks like today.
A detailed explanation of what deforestation is and why it is important we work to prevent future
impact on the environment.
Select a charity/organisation that they would like to get behind and encourage grade four to support.
Students will be required to provide information about this organisation by explaining who they are,
what they are doing to prevent deforestation and how grade 4s donation will be used to help stop
the destruction of the environment.
A minimum of 3 interesting facts about deforestation and/or the groups chosen charity/organisation.
Provide feedback to other groups on their presentation.
Reflect on how their presentation went and what they could do differently next time.

Presentation Format:

For this Oral, groups are able to present their information in one or more of the following ways:
