Bishop Macdonell Biology Trips to the Toronto Zoo

Dear Parent / Guardian:


Students at Bishop Macdonell will be given the opportunity to visit the Toronto Zoo for the purpose of
reinforcing concepts learned in the grade 10 Science curriculum.
Toronto Zoo Trip:
The Toronto Zoo will enable the students to have a better understanding of a variety of ecosystems,
including the unique types of organisms that inhabit each ecosystem. Students will be able to make scientific
observations in regards to the Diversity of Living Things. Identification of specific species and determining how
each species has been impacted by climate change. The Toronto Zoo provides the students with a unique
opportunity to observe species found all over the world. The purpose of this unit is for students to develop an
understanding of our impact on the world with regards to climate change, including the interactions that occur
among animals, humans, and the environment.
Important Information Regarding the Zoo Trip: Date May 15, 2015
_ The bus will be leave Bishop Macdonell at 8:00 A.M. sharp and return to the school by 2:50 P.M.
_ The cost of the trip is $24.00 per student, this covers the cost of bus rental and admittance to the Zoo as well
as the expertise of Metro Zoo Guides, however, it does not cover the cost of lunch.
_ We ask that the permission form and money be submitted to Mr. Luzi.
_ Please ensure that they come properly dressed for the weather with a good pair of walking shoes.
_ Students not attending the trip will be given an assignment to be completed at the school.
Elements of Risk: Educational activity programs, such as those listed above involve certain elements of risk.
Accidents may occur while participating in these activities. Examples of these accidents that may cause injury can
include:
1. Students will remain onsite at the Toronto Zoo. The only type of risk associated with the fieldtrip will
occur during travel to and from the venue.
These accidents result from the nature of the activity and can occur without any fault on either the part of the
student, or the School Board or its employees or agents, or the facility where the activity is taking place. By
choosing to participate in the activity you are aware of the potential risk of an accident occurring. The chance of an
accident occurring can be reduced by carefully following instructions at all times while engaged in the activity. If
you choose to allow your son/daughter to participate, you must understand that by signing this form, you are aware
of the possible risks and that an accident might occur. The Wellington Catholic District School Board does not
provide accidental death, disability, dismemberment or medical expense insurance on behalf of the student
participating in this/these activity(ies). Student accident insurance is available all year, not just at the beginning of
the school year. Parents can to go www.insuremykids.com to purchase the insurance.
