Subject: Making Harding University Swings with Zeta Rho and TNT

Zeta Rho News Release

For Immediate Release
March 8, 2013
Zeta Rho and TNT keep the relationship alive with the building of miniature Harding
Swings
Steve Lake, assistant president of the Harding fund, knows students need to be aware of the
donations made to Harding University every year. With that in mind, he set into motion an effort
to thank those who donate, and to remind students to be thankful for the donations given to
Harding University that are being put to good use.
The Harding Fund was rebranded in June of 2011 so that potential and current contributors to
Harding University will know exactly where their money goes to. Dr. Burks, president of
Harding University, suggested to Lake that the Harding Fund initially seek to receive donations
from within Harding University itself, faculty and staff, and, in return for their contribution, give
them a miniature replica of a Harding swing.
We made the Harding Swing the logo for the Harding fund because its so iconic, said Lake.
In 1934, Harvey Dikes designed the first Harding swing, and since then hundreds of students
have enjoyed the romantic squeak of the chains, and the company they shared it with. The
Harding swing sitting on faculty members desks will remind students to thank donors frequently
for helping make possible the Harding experience that students have and love.
On March 5, 2013, Harding University social clubs Zeta Rho and TNT came together to make
the miniature Harding swings. Zeta Rho and TNT are brother/sister clubs, with the relationship
between the two dating back to 1963. TNT was established in 1933, and Zeta Rho in 1961,
making them two of the oldest social clubs on campus. When asked about what the relationship
between the two clubs meant to them, sophomore TNT member and Zeta Rho beau, Jackson
Shamblin, said that the relationship is that of a family, and by coming together to make the
Harding swings, the bond between the two clubs was as evident as ever.

My favorite part of the swing service project was getting a chance to hang out as brother and
sister clubs, while getting to do something little for people who have given us so much, Zeta
Rho Vice President Tori Brown said.
Lake chose Zeta Rho and TNT to make the swings because they have a lot of history together, as
well as their image and reputation being upstanding in the Harding community. He spoke of the
bond between Zeta Rho and TNT as being rich, vibrant, and admirable.
Brown described Zeta Rho best when she spoke of how the club had acted as a rock in her life
throughout her college years, and being a part of the club means being in a sisterhood of spiritual
encouragers, servants, and energetic girls who love to have a lot of fun. Shamblin spoke in a
similar way about his time in TNT by touching on the club helping to foster strong friendships
where he knows he can rely on his brothers for anything.
