    peopleandtheirposts.SometroubleIhadwasfindingthetruthfromthefactsand
    researchingtopicsonmyowntofindoutwhatisreal.

    ImonSocialMediasitesalmosteverydayatanygivenpointoftheday.Itisan
    everydayritualthatalotofteenagersgothroughonadailybasis.Wewakeupandwe
    checkTwitter,Facebook,InstagramandTumblr.Wedothisthroughouttheday.Itisno
    surprisethatthesesitesinfluenceussomuch,itsbecausewereonthemsomuch.Media
    hasbeenaroundforcenturiesinformsofposters,newspapers,andnowsocialmedia.
    IalwaysaskmyselfwhenImonsocialmedia,aretheseopinionsmineor
    someoneelses?WhenIreadapostortweet,Isometimesgoalongwithitevenifit
    doesntgoalongwithmyviews.Iautomaticallythinkbecauseithassomuchsupport

    questionsuponanaccreditedsiteorasktheirdoctor.Sowhattheyreadrightthenand
    thereiswhattheybelieve.Idonotthinkwe(teenagers)shouldbebasingdecisions
    regardingvaccines,whichhelppreventdisease,onpostswrittenbyotheruneducated
    teenagersoryoungadults.Sometimessomeonewhoknowswhattheyaretalkingabout
    getsitright,butmostofthetimeitdoesnthappen.
    AnotherincidentregardingsocialmediaandthepublicwasKony2012.When
    thisisbroughtuptosomeonemyage,theytreatitasajokenow.Konyisnolongera
    threattotheAfricapopulation.ThevideoblewuponYouTubeandinstantlybecamea
    hitwiththeyoungaudience.Thecompanyaskedfordonations,support,andhelp.When
    thiscameaboutIwasabout15andIfellforeveryword.Ievenwantedtodonatemoney
    withoutevenresearchingthecause.Thisisthetypeofmediathatshouldnotbesoeasily
    availabletochildren.Thevideohadmanygraphicimagesmakingyoungpeoplefallfor
    whateverthevideosaid.Onevideomadeamovementthatmadepeoplefeelbadandgo
    againstamanthattheyhavenoknowledgeabout.
    AhistoricalexampleofpeoplefollowingthemediawasGermanyduringthe
    1930s.HitlerusedpropagandatopromotehimselfandtopushhisNaziwaysontothe
    public.Heusedfeartacticsinhismessagestoscarethosewhodidnotcomplywiththe

    NaziProgram.HeusedthistypeofmediatocontrolGermanyanddeceivetheoutside
    world.Hispropagandahadmixedmessagesthatunitedthecountrybutatthesame
    broughtdownthosewhodidnotfithisidealutopia.WhenHitlerwantedwarwithPoland
    andthepublicdidnot,helaunchedcampaignstomakePolandlookliketheenemy.The
    NaziregimenmadeallegationsthatthePolishpeoplediscriminatedandactedviolently
    towardsGermanslivinginPoland.TheymanipulatedthemediagoingintoGermanyto
    getsupportfromtheirpeople.Themediaandpropagandawassointenseandblinding
    thatitforcedthepublictobeokaywiththeexecutionofallEuropeanJews.
    Mediahasbeenusednegativelythiswayforyearsbecauseitsaneasywaytocontrolthe
    population.
    Peopleshouldbeabletoformtheirownopinionsinsteadofhavingsomeone
    elseswaysforceduponthem.SocialMediahasalsoopenedupmoredoorsformeandI
    havegottenmoreopinionsonthings.Themediacanbedeceptiveanddark,peopleneed
    tolearnhowtothinkforthemselvesandnotrelysolelyonunaccreditedmediatogettheir
    information.Thenews,posts,andarticleswillmostofthetimebebias.Thereisalways
    morethanonesidetoeverystory.
