How much do you really know? These are big questions the College
Board expects you to know.

What is disordered behavior? What are the basic criteria for identifying when a behavior is disordered?

How does someone write a Multi-Axis Assessment? What sort of information will each axis hold?

Can you explain the different diagnostic categories including the symptoms and causes of each? (anxiety, mood,
somatoform, schizophrenia, personality, dissociative)

How will the different perspectives explain psychological disorders? (medical model, psychoanalytic, humanistic,
cognitive, biological, social-cultural)

What are the positive and negative consequences of the diagnostic labeling of a mentally ill person? (Think the
Rosenhan study)

What is the link between the legal system and mental disorders? (think Sanity, MNaughten rule, confidentiality)

How would a person with OCD be treated according to 3 different perspectives? Major Depression?
Schizophrenia?

When would a different format for therapy be appropriate? (think Group, Family)

Which treatments are best for different disorders? Try to identify 4 different specific disorders and how best to
treat each.

Identify the significance of the following people in the treatment of disorders: Freud, Ellis, Beck, Rogers

What are some strategies that will help make individuals more resilient and reduce the occurrences of mental
illness?

How can attributions help explain motives? (think FAE, self-serving bias)

What are some specific situations/terms in which a group can affect an individual in a negative fashion? (Lots
here-at least 5!)

How do individuals respond to the expectations of others? (think groupthink, obedience, conformity)

Identify and explain 3 ways to change someones attitude.

What are variables that contribute to altruism, aggression and attraction?

What are some factors (social, cultural, cognitive, emotional) that affect the development of prejudiced beliefs?
