Reflection Essay
For my literary reading assignment, I chose A Confederacy of Dunces. I
enjoyed reading it very much because the cultural, political, and social
humor within the novel are still relevant today when it was originally written
in the early 60s. The thesis for my literary analysis is how the cultural
diversity stereotypes represented in the novel as still ongoing and relevant
today in terms of race, religion, and the politics of sex.
I feel more enlightened due to the selection of literature I was exposed to
in the American Literature II class course. The depth and variety of themes
and topics engaged my analytical thinking in a less technical manner
compared to my profession in Information Technology. The opportunity to
deal with abstract themes and topics that were open to interpretation
challenged me by not thinking in absolutes when dealing with subjects of a
technical nature.
Throughout this term, I submitted a variety of journal entry assignments
based on the required reading assignments; however, I believe my best entry
is my literary analysis paper because I read the novel I selected and

formulated my own thesis based what I learned from the novel in conveying
my analytical thought process and writing.
This e-portfolio is a culmination of what I learned and hopefully mastered
in the American Literature II class course conducted by Professor Shari
McGrif. This e-portfolio is an opportunity to display my technical knowledge
in terms of building and organizing the site, but also my analytical
comprehension and knowledge gained from the class course during this term
as a reader and writer.
I benefitted from listening to others within the class when discussing
analysis and interpretations of the reading assignments because everyone
contributed something diferent to the discussion. This allowed me to be
more cognizant on being aware and open for diferent perspectives.
This class course allowed me the opportunity to write in a more open
prose and style where I communicate and express what I learned from the
diferent reading assignments in comparison to the linear logic of technical
writing in Information Technology.
The challenges I encountered throughout this course was not necessarily
about interpreting the material, but following through on a timely manner in
completing reading and writing assignments consistently because of health
challenges and work commitments throughout this term. This e-portfolio is
proof that I managed to work through the challenges.
I feel I benefitted profoundly from this class course in terms of analytical
comprehension, and writing. Im confident my analytical writing prose and

style evolved and carried over to my technical writing prose and style
resulting in a more efective method of communication and comprehension.
