The Beginning of Soccer

Goal!!!!!!!!! Soccer originated many years ago but no one really knows where exactly
soccer originated from. Soccer is the largest played sport in the world, it is played in more than
100 countries. Its origin may not be determined exactly but there are many places that had a
soccer like game.
The rules and objectives of soccer are very easy to understand. Soccer is a simple sport it
is divided into two, 45-min. halves, with a change of goal after the half (Soccer). The
objective for the teams are to score goals, points are awarded for each goal, and the team with
the most points wins the game (Soccer). Todays modern day soccer originated from England.
The sport was played mainly in the great public (private) schools of the day (Soccer). The
English formed a football association in 1863, which is still around to this day it is call the
Football Association.
Before the soccer we know today, there were earlier games like soccer. Historic artifacts
and enduring traditions make it clear that football was played in ancient times in places such as
Egypt, Ancient China and Rome (Who Invented Football). The objectives of the game have
come through the years and helped for the foundation of the soccer. Around 2,500 B.C.
Egyptians played a soccer like game. Balls made of linen were discovered in Egyptians tombs

(Who Invented Football). Drawings of that time showed a soccer like game played during
feasts.
In ancient China, there was a game called Cuju that was similar to soccer. Cuju was so
similar to soccer, its name translate to kick the ball with foot (Who Invented Football). The
game Cuju was played with a leather ball and the objective was to shoot it through a in a piece
of cloth hung between two poles (Who Invented Football). Around the same time the Ancient
Romans played another soccer like game. The only objective of this game was to get the ball to
the opposing teams goal (Who Invented Football). This game played by the Romans was also
in the early Olympics.
The English were said to have kept the tradition of soccer alive. During the Middle Ages
a sport called mob football was played in England. There were still no rules to this game,
players were allowed to go on playing as long as their actions do not lead to manslaughter
(Who Invented Football). There was unlimited number of players and the game was played on
the streets. The Fdration Internationale de Football Association was form to be known as
modern soccer. Fdration Internationale de Football Association or FIFA was form by European
countries. FIFA is a governing body of football that will oversee international games (Who
Invented Football). Soccer was so popular it became known by many names like football,
futbol, futebol, and fussbol in different countries but in the United States it became known as
soccer (Who Invented Football).
Modern day soccer may be the worlds most popular sport but there is so much to its
history. The ancient Chinese, Egyptians, and Romans all played a sport that would later turn into
soccer. The origin of modern day soccer was founded in England. Soccer is one sport that will
continue to be played for years to come.
