Physical Education Lesson #2

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

Teacher Candidate: Miss M. Leonetti
Grade: 7

Subject: Physical Education

Duration (minutes): 40

TODAYS LESSON TOPIC:
Survivor Team-Building Games

OVERALL EXPECTATIONS
Overall Expectation B1: Apply movement strategies appropriately, demonstrating an
understanding of the components of a variety of physical activities, in order to enhance their
ability to participate successfully in those activities.
Specific Expectation B2.1: Demonstrate an understanding of the components of a range of
physical activities and apply this understanding as they participate in a variety of physical
activities in indoor and outdoor environments.

MATERIALS:
Twelve large hula-hoops, 12 bean bags, 6 foam balls, and 6 pool noodles.

WARM UP:
(Approximately 10 Minutes)
When students are finished changing into their gym clothes, have them walk around the
perimeter of the gym.
When everyone is out and walking, have the class run five laps around the gym.
Next, choose two leaders to lead the class in stretches.

RIVER CROSS:
(Approximately 10 Minutes)
Each tribe is given two hula-hoops (if the hula-hoops arent big enough, well substitute
in mats).
Tell students that their CHALLENGE is to safely cross the river in their boat (the hulahoop) with their tribe.
Once a player has jumped into a boat, that boat becomes too heavy to move (so it cannot
be picked up, kicked forward, or slid). Instead, an empty
boat can be picked up and placed in a new location.
If a player steps out of the boat, all players must go back
approximately 1 meter.
Students will begin on one side of the gym and must
move together until they reach the other side.

OBJECT MOVE:
(Approximately 10 Minutes)
Tribes will be lined up on one line of the gym, standing behind a hula-hoop filled with
objects.
On my go, two players at a time (from each tribe) must move an object from their hoop to
the other hoop on the opposite side of the gym.
Each object is associated with a different part of the body (wrist, head, back, elbow, etc).
To move an object, teammates
may only contact that object using
its associated body part.
If a team drops an object midway,
they must go back to the start and
try again.
Only one object may be moved at
a time.
The next two players from the
team cannot go until the first two
players have run back.

STORK STAND MARATHON (Time-Permitting)

On my go, all players make a stork stand balance position (standing on one foot) and
remain standing for as long as they can. The ultimate goal is to be the last one standing.
Tribe members may not touch other players, any walls/objects, may not rest their
elevated foot on their other foot, and cannot let their elevated foot touch the ground.
When a player is eliminated, they must remain seated and cheer on others.

CHANGING/RETURNING TO CLASS:
(Approximately 10 Minutes)
Provide students with time to change and then have them line up before returning to
class.

ACCOMODATIONS/MODIFICATIONS:
All students will be able to participate in these activities .
