3 Focus Students:

Jason
o Trumpet
Jason struggles with consistency of tone, accuracy, and
conveying his musical ideas. His lessons were primarily centered
on his portrayal of musical ideas.
In lessons as well as during group ensemble, comments were
directed towards him that focused on proper techniques to
generate a more consistent sound.
Jason was a semi decently hard worker that has a lot of potential
but needs to be pushed very hard outside of class.
Rebecca
o Trumpet
Rebecca is a student that could be phenomenal, but was not
given the attention needed to push her to achieve her potential.
She struggles with technique issues from hand position to
articulation.
After establishing private lessons, Rebecca became the most
consistent student we had, as well as the one who showed the
most positive growth.
During lessons we progressed through various technique
exercises from Clarke to Arban. Due to the nature of the seating
placement for the ensemble, Rebeccas ability to model sound
for the ensemble was not as frequent, and as such only
individual comments during lessons were given.
Alex
o Euphonium
Alex is a player who struggles with pitch accuracy, and melodic
figures. Alex tends to be very choppy in phrases and does not
connect musical ideas.
We worked with Alex in The Liberty Bell March as well as
individual lessons to establish a better sense of style and an
accurate model for the ensemble.
He was able to model a few times for the ensemble throughout
the semester, none during the edTPA tapings, and showed
significant growth through both his individual performances as
well as his ensemble performances.
