t is said that
technology
integration is using
computers
effectively and efficiently
in the general content areas
to allow students to learn
how to apply computer
skills in meaningful ways
(Dockstader, n.d.).
However, our society has
now become a world of
21st century learners. This
means that our children
have now become very
technologically savvy and
in order to keep the interest
of our students, there is the
obvious need to integrate
technology into the
classroom. Technology in
the classroom has now

become the in-thing to be

used in the classroom as a
form of enhancement to
the teaching/learning
process. Surprisingly, this
integration of technology
is necessary for students
ranging from pre-school to
college level students. It is
therefore the teachers duty
to make an impact on the
classroom using
technology throughout
planning, delivery and
assessment of instruction.

Many teachers are now

using technology as a part
of the planning process. By
this I mean, teachers are
now integrating technology
into their lesson plans for
enhancement in the
teaching learning process.
For example: Teachers
tend to use power points as
a form of introduction to
their lessons and so these
ideas would have been put
into the lesson planning of
the particular subject. As a
result, there are many
benefits of computer
technology on planning.
These include:

The Impact of
Computer
Technology on
Delivery of
Instruction
It is not just how
well the teacher
plans her lesson
and integrates
technology but how
well he/she delivers
the lesson he/she
has created.
Therefore, a
teacher should
always be well
familiar with the
lesson he/she has
planned so that
they will
effectively deliver
the lesson that they
have planned.
However, there are
many impacts that
computer
technology has on
the delivery of the
teaching/learning
process:
It makes the lesson
more interactive
It makes the learner
more interested in
the content being
delivered by the
teacher
It also allows the
teacher to feel more
confident in his/her
delivery based on

effective research
done using
technology during
the planning aspect
of the lesson
It also allows for
the delivery to be
effective in terms
of making learning
fun for students
Teacher is able to
integrate different
softwares or
programs into
his/her lessons
Also, it allows for
the teacher to act as
a facilitator while
she uses effective
tools like a
computer and
softwares to bring
across the content
for students
With such great
impacts on the
delivery of the
teaching/learning
process, there are
also impacts on the
assessment aspect
of teaching and
learning.
The Impact of
Computer
Technology on
Assessment of
Instruction
Teachers are now
able to assess
students in so many
ways. However,
one of the most

common forms of
assessment is testtaking.
Consequently, there
are ways in which
technology can be
used to still carry
these forms of
assessment as well
as other authentic
kinds of
assessment. These
include:
Word processing,
PowerPoint to
create presentations

Digital portfolios or
other computer
based collections of
materials which
includes students
work over a period
of time
Video and audio
tapes or podcasts
which includes
students
performances using
academic material
Teacherconstructed
websites that

children can use to

complete activities
after a lesson has
been taught.

In a digital world, no
organization can
achieve results without
incorporating
technology into every
aspect of its everyday
practices. Its time for
schools to maximize
the impact of
technology as well.
