LESSONSUMMARY/OVERVIEW
Forthislessonstudentswillbeusingrecycledcommonhouseholditems(milkjug,toiletpaperroll,boxes,
etc.)tocreateanewobjectortool.Thepointofthislessonisforstudentstolearnthattheycanrecycleand
reuseitemstocreatesomethingnewanduseful.Aftertheycreatetheirnewobjectortooltheywillwritea
persuasiveparagraphdescribingwhytheybelievethisobject/toolismoresustainablethanthrowingawaythe
householditems.
OBJECTIVES
Studentswillbeabletocreateamoresustainableoptionforcommonhouseholdgoods.
Students will be able to write a persuasive paragraph describing why their new object/tool is more
sustainablethanthrowingawaythosegoods.
ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
AuthenticAssessment:Studentswillcreateanewobject/toolusingcommonhouseholditemssuchasmilkjug,
toiletpaperroll,boxes,etc.Theymajorityoftheirobject/itemmustberecycleditems.Theyshouldntgoout
andbuyitemsforthisproject.
FormalAssessment:Studentswillwriteanopinionparagraphdescribingwhytheirnewobject/toolismore
sustainablethanthrowingawaythosegoods.Theirparagraphmustincludewhattheirobjectis,whattheir
objectcanbeusedfor,andwhythisoptionismoresustainablethanthrowingthosegoodsaway.
PREREQUISITEKNOWLEDGE
Studentsmustknowwhatrecycledcommonhouseholditemsare.Toaccesstheirpriorknowledgewewill
