2. Illustrate
3. Illustrate
4. Illustrate

multiplication of integers pictorially.

multiplication of integers symbolically.
division of integers pictorially.
division of integers symbolically.

ASSESSMENTS
Observations/Key
Questions/Products

Problems of the day: How do students understand the multiplication of

integers, and the rules associated with multiplication (1,2)
Post-it Note Activity: Review of multiplication and division of integers
through the form of problems (1,2,3,4)
4 Corners Activity: More review of multiplication and division of integers,
do students understand the methods that they can use to multiply and
divide (1,2,3,4)

Agenda on the board: Problems of the day; Talk Partners Activity;

Post-it Notes Activity; 4 Corners Activity
Large post-it notes ready for the groups with question numbers and
pages numbers on them at the front of the class.

Problems of the Day: Poll Everywhere questions (5

questions).
(8A has not done Poll Everywhere yet, and they will
likely take longer for this section)
Go through four possible division questions:
6/2, 6/-2, -6/2 and -6/-2 using integer chips on the
whiteboard in four different sections.
NEED to know the quotient is it + or in order to
know if you put chips in or take them out.
There arent many questions on the strand exam
for using integer chips, so dont worry too much
about them but try and remember these examples.

For the As: Do review of number line approach to

clear up any confusion from previous day.
These are just good tools that if you struggle with
multiplication and division you have an extra
resource in your back pocket to pull out and use,
especially if youre a more visual or spatial person.

Questioning throughout

Post-it note activity. I will divide the class into 5/6

groups. Each group will get large post-it notes.
They are expected to write out their questions on
the paper so that future students will know what
the question was. They each get two or three
examples from the textbook and have to work in
their groups to determine the correct answers.
Spread these out as best as possible along the
wall as students finish.

A groups: Matthew V, Jordan, Sianna (p. 81 #7,

15, 18); Tia, Megan, Tom, Matthew K (p.81 #8,
17); Kim, Colby, Kaya (p. 81 #4, 5, 11); Raymond,
Austin, Amber, Nolan (p. 81, #3, 6, 13); Kiera,
Cassidy, Liam (p. 81 #10, 16); Sebastian, Tristan,
Leah (p. 81 #9, 12)
B groups: Danielle, Taylor, Robbie, Sarah (p. 81
#7, 15, 18); Ali, Kash, Daxton, Byron(p.81 #8,
17); Josie, Cole, Maleah (p. 81 #4, 5, 11); Josh,
Alex, Holly, Chayton (p. 81, #3, 6, 13); Sam,
Dylan, Blaze(p. 81 #10, 16); Jessie, Fox, Cooper
(p. 81 #9, 12)

Differentiation for
students
Focused formative
assessment

Students will return to their desks as they finish

and we will go through each of the answers,
calling on groups to explain their answers.

As closure, we will play a little bit of 4 corners for

more review; as many questions as we can get
through in the class.
Once we have a couple minutes left in class, I will
bring them back to their desks, and then we will
close the class off with a review and recap of
what we have seen so far in the integers unit.
Tomorrow we will be talking more about the
division of integers and rules associated with it to
get more practice.
For the Bs: if there is extra time show this video
which they have not seen yet for more review of
dividing integers:
