Swales Criteria

1. A discourse community has a broadly agreed set of


common public goals.

2. A discourse community has mechanisms of


intercommunication among its members.

3. A discourse community uses its participatory


mechanisms primarily to provide information and
feedback.

4. A discourse community utilizes and hence possesses one


or more genres in the communicative furtherance of its
aims.

There are $15 dues every semester to go toward group tshirts or events that may be had in the future

Speaking to the community and the middle school girls


Have pub tables with posters and flyers telling about the
group
Instagram DIVAS pages

5. In addition to owning genres, a discourse community has


acquired a specific lexis.

The phrase DIVAS means Driven Intelligent Virtuous

There arent any other specific words that are unique to
this community


6. A discourse community has a threshold level of members
with a suitable degree of relevant content and discoursal
expertise

There are 6 E-board members who run the group and


about 65 regular members who participate
The group is fairly new so all of the E-board members
were there for its founding
But there is space for advancement when the E-board
members can no longer hold their position
There are a lot of members who joined when it started, last
semester and even this semester
