This caf came about as a venue to capitalize on a number of students

interests. These interests ranged from making an outlet for Fair Trade coffee around
campus, to engaging with the local community, to giving students practical
business experience. This is an ambitious project initiated by a group of highly
motivated students with guidance from encouraging professors. We hope to open a
fully functioning caf that serves not only the interests of the students initiating it
but the greater PC and Smith Hill community.
The caf would be on 321 Douglass Avenue adjacent to the PC Smith Hill
Annex in a building that is already outfitted to be a Caf. We hope to make the caf
a space that would be a safe space for any and all to come, be it from PC, Smith Hill,
or downtown. We hope to have community events and are establishing connections
with other organizations to host events at the caf to further develop a sense of
community in Smith Hill.
Now this is not just a community space, it is a business first and foremost.
This will be a caf that will employ members of the community and help to develop
the economy of Smith Hill. The caf will generate profit that will not go to any of the
leaders but will go either back into the business or the community. This will also
give practical business and leadership experience to all students and members
involved. This will not only be practical experience but a way to help students to
learn to run a business ethically and practice social entrepreneurship.
