Reflective Essay on Creative Revision: MWA #2
To successfully revise my position paper (MWA #2) into different genre, I had to test my
creativity and compose a rhetorical situation where the genre would capture the viewers
attention in a short flyer protesting the faults of the Common Core Curriculum. My creative
revision visually represents the approach of the position paper through a simple message
displayed on a one page flyer encouraging people to object to the reformed education system.
Instead of taking time to read an entire position paper, it is easier for people to quickly
understand what is being protested and how it could impact their life as they decide to either
consider it or ignore it. This advertisement genre is meant to be briefly observed and analyzed to
instantly get the message across to the targeted audience.
I choose to create this protest flyer for my new genre in order to advocate the importance
of quality public education and to outline the unsuccessful results of the Common Core
Curriculum. This flyer advertises an education reform program called Academic Success
where contact information will be displayed for further communication in hopes that people will
advertise making changes in our countrys academic system. Although the flyer doesnt contain
as much information as the position paper, it still portrays the same intentional resilient message.
The main purpose of this assignment was to play and adjust to a different context within the
same material of the previous genre, and I believe it was an efficient transition in my experience.
I took into terms the content, style, and design of the flyer to effectively attract my audience
through a well-organized visual representation of the public education crisis. I mostly used
vibrant colors like lime green and pink to add contrast to the font and text in order to separate

ideas and information in orderly manner. I then displayed an image representing the logo of this
education reform program, Academic Success to give credibility to the efforts of the program.
I also used a variety of large and small font sizes to signify the more important information from
the lesser, which overall added to my intended approach. These specific decisions of adding
color, certain images, and font size are all important factors to consider as these elements
contribute to the visual aspect of the message that draws the audience in. This creative revision
reflects the main ideas stated in the position paper and protests against how the standardized
curriculum is suppressing the expression of ideas, individuality, and creative activity (MWA #2
Pg. 6). If this flyer were to be published it would be displayed around offices and public places in
large cities around the country to ensure the advertisement of the program is being publicized so
more people could become aware of the faults in the current education system and to hopefully
make changes to improve those deficiencies. Communication and advertising the right
information is essential for any program to be successful in order for people to make proactive
decisions that could better their future and possibly their childrens future. That is why utilizing
different forms of genres for advertising a program will reach a larger area of the targeted
audience and spread the message.
Given the opportunity to revise my position paper into a resourceful genre had helped me
understand how the same information can be generated into a completely new context. I think I
meet the intended goals of the assignment as I composed a genre that was different but relatable
and accurate. If I had more experience with advertising and sharing information to a large
audience group, I would maybe change or tweak some features of the flyer to effectively get the
message and the visual aspect across to the observer more clearly. Having the ability to progress

my understanding of different approaches and angles of writing in various genres has expanded
my English comprehension extensively.
