College debt is something that most college students struggle with. The only people that
dont struggle are people who can either afford college in full, or work a lot. Most people
struggle, and that is something that we need to fix. How should college really be paid? Should
we have to take out loans and mess up things in our future or, should the government pay for part
of out education and not pay anything back.
Most college students use financial aid and loans to pay for college. At the end of their
college career, they have to pay the loans back. When I am done with college, I will have over
twenty thousand dollars in loans that I have to pay back. That is about the average cost of one
year of college. Even though my financial aid covers most of the cost, thats still a lot left. Its
hard going out and finding a career, but when you know that you have to pay the money back, it
can be even harder.
I think that I can go very far with this topic. I can talk about the pros and cons about the
government paying for our education. One pro would be that we wouldnt have to worry about
paying back something when we are trying to find a job right out of college. One con that people
argue, and I agree, is how people would abuse free education. Even if the free education is at a
community college, people will still abuse it. Many people would just be going so that they can
say that they are going to college. They can even be going just because their parents want them

to go. People like that dont want to be in school and would most likely be a distraction to
classes, which can make the classroom environment bad.
One book that I might use is Why Does College Cost So Much? by Robert B Archibald
and David Feldman. I am going to use this because it explains why college is so expensive. I feel
like it will be good with arguing that college will need to have a high cost to stay affective.
Another book that I might use is Why Public Higher Education Should Be Free by Robert
Samuels. This book is going to be good for arguing why college should be free. Each book will
show a different side of the argument, so it will be very helpful to show with sides to the reader.
