○ He viewed cork cells
○ He named them cell because they looked like empty
boxes just like the rooms called "cells"
○ The word cell comes from Latin word "Cellulae" mean
"rooms" and "cella" meaning "a small room"
○ He was the first person to discovered the cell and
started the cell theory
