Final Portfolio Essay
The way I decided to set up my E-Portfolio is in a progressive order, and when I say
progressive I mean that the Blog section is a display of my progression over the course. My
first page of my e-portfolio is the Welcome page, where I put made an open-armed page for
readers. The bulk of my E-Portfolio utilizes spacial, linguistic, and visual modes of
communication. The spacial aspect would be through the layout of the website, how I have
things arranged and organized. The linguistic aspect is given through my writing, various works,
and research, through the arrangement of words and sentences. Finally, the visual aspect is seen
through the reader/audience having to look at a website, at documents or videos, etc.
My main three key concepts that I was engaged with throughout the course would be
critical thinking, making connections, and independent inquiry & curiosity. The making
connections aspect would be seen in my three column notes first draft and final draft, because of
the links that I drew between multiple sources. Critical thinking would be seen in my 3 Possible
Inquiry Question document, where I had to decide on three questions that could be posed in an
argument for one side or the other. Another place that critical thinking is shown in my work, is
through the 3 Column Notes first draft and final draft, because of having to thoroughly think
about what is considered important enough to include in the annotation section. Independent
inquiry & curiosity is shown in my first wild card, Research Activity, through me researching

about a topic out of pure curiosity and wonder, without being asked or told to. Another document
as to where independent inquiry & curiosity is in the Typed Research Report (P.S. all of the
documents mentioned are in the E-Portfolio); where I out of the want for knowledge of various
credible sources asked the librarian for places I could find these sources and for resources that I
could use.
My Blog page is the first informational piece of my e-portfolio. A comment that James
left on my Blog Post #6, I think your audience should be just strictly other body builders. That
is what we talked about in class during the peer workshops. I think once you do that it will be a
lot easier for you to continue your multi-genre project, really helped me in deciding who my
audience should be for my Multi-Genre Project, because the peer workshops helped bring
different points to table when deciding who my audience would be; and the more I began to think
about everything we had discussed, it became clear. A comment left on my 3 Possible Inquiry
Questions post on the blog page, left by Keya, I think your topic should be interesting and
seeing how people feel about supplements. I did my senior project on rather athletes should be
drug tested on supplements and the research I came across was interesting to say the least. When
comparing an athletes supplements to say a college student you may get different reactions to the
use of supplements, was encouraging that I could maybe shed some light on a hidden dispute,
and it also sparked some critical thinking as to whether steroids would impact ones intake of
certain foods (specifically protein dense foods).
My Midterm page is next on tabs of the e-portfolio, where I put the final draft of my
midterm and the changes made below the document. The feedback I received for my midterm
form Ms. Ingram, I think that youre making more connections than you realize and that youre
doing thorough work thus far. If grades were due today, youd have an A, was a huge

confidence booster because I had no idea how well I was doing in the class, and so after I found
this out I was very surprised. I discussed the key concepts I was strong in and the ones I found to
be difficult. Towards the beginning of the Multi-Genre Project, I first began to start getting out of
my comfort zone through the use of different methods of displaying something visually (the
poster). Then multi-modality of print & digital texts is evident in my three column notes first and
final drafts, through the use of books, articles, and website sources.
The Multi-Genre Project was a huge portion of my total work this semester. The key
concepts of critical thinking and getting out of your comfort zone. Critical thinking is shown in
the meaning behind the lyrics of the Egg White Song regarding carbohydrate consumption and
the benefits of eating egg whites. The getting out of your comfort zone aspect was shown in
the creation of the song, it was somewhat difficult making a song with deeper meanings behind
the lyrics and refraining from using curse words. Getting out of your comfort zone was also seen
in the creation of the poster board, mainly through using nonconventional tools; i.e. using actual
protein scoop and protein powder, and making a frying pan out of tin foil and hot glue.
The first of my feedback artifacts, the Dear Readers letter, contributed to my learning
in the course, because it informed me of the kind of sources I should be looking for; ones that
apply to my target audience directly. Also the feedback gave me some different ideas as how to
approach my topic. My second feedback artifact, was the midterm feedback, and this contributed
to my learning in the course through Ms. Ingrams suggestions to keep practicing with multimodality, in order to further my understanding of the concept. The midterm feedback also gave
me different things to think about regarding my topic.
The first of my writers notebook artifacts, the 2/5/2015 warm-up, was important to my
learning in the course, because it showed me the importance of preliminary research when it

comes to wanting to know more about a topic. My second writers notebook artifact, the
2/10/2015 warm-up, was beneficial to my learning in the course, because I was able to learn the
difficulty of the 3 column notes method but was also able to see how great of a resource it is for
someone who wants to learn about a topic but doesnt want to read a book, so an annotation
would be perfect because it is a summary of a written work, i.e. book, novel, etc.
My first process work artifacts, my first draft of the 3 column notes, because not only did
it help me to start drawing connections easier between my sources, but it also helped with my
understanding of what is important enough to include in the annotation of the document, and
finally it was a new method I had not been exposed to and I found that is very useful. My second
process work artifact, the Typed Research Report, contributed to my learning in the course
because it gave me an opportunity to practice compiling my research from various sources and it
allowed me to ask important questions regarding my topic and where I could find credible
sources. The final process work artifact, 3 Possible Inquiry Questions, was beneficial to my
learning in this course through the challenge of coming down to three possible questions,
because I had to critically think about what types of questions would be best for this type of
assignment, as in what questions would there be an actual controversy over.
According to the e-Portfoilio grading scale, I believe I should receive a B, because my
e-portfolio is thoughtfully arranged and navigable with the use of the tabs. I also illustrate my
engagement with the writing processes throughout the Final Portfolio Essay. I address multiple
key concepts throughout the FPE as well. My FPE contains three texts from the course, from
different writers, and I discussed their importance to my progression and learning in the course.
Finally, this may also leave an unanswered question for the teacher/reader.
