First Segment Kaan Sengunes talking with William Farman

Question: Based on your knowledge of the industry, do you think that the
anticipated films coming in 2015 will be considered as successful projects, both for
the actors and the industry of film, and why?
Likely Response:
I believe that the films of 2015 will be very good because the increase in
independent films has created a more diverse style of filmmaking with a variety of
different styles that created unique film in the past year, making an opportunity for
the upcoming films.

Next Question: Initially Ryan Gosling, Ben Affleck and Brad Pitt were cast to play
the main roles in the new upcoming film Focus, what do you think of this
unexpected decision from the actors dropping out and do you think it was a good
decision for the main role to be replaced by Will Smith?

Likely Response:
Yes because Will Smith has recently started to progress his leading roles into more
serious films. Although it is a risky move from the director, I believe casting Will
Smith was a good idea as the role is intended to be quirky and Will Smith will create
a good quirky character.

Next Question: The film Focus is critically acclaimed to be one of the best
blockbuster hits of 2015, does this place too much pressure on Will Smith and could
this eventually be a peak project in his recent career?

Likely Response:
Will Smith is still very popular in the movie world so I believe he will continue to be a
respected actor therefore he should carry on being a lead actor as he hasnt shown
any signs of getting less popular.

Segment Two- Harry Lowe intervening Nic Saunders. Next Question: Could you
give us a brief insight to your career in filmmaking?

Likely Response:
I have produced and directed three short independent films in my recent career and
I will combine all these films to create a feature length film.

Next Question: Now, youve had first-hand experience in having to promote your
films. Did you come across any difficulties when you first started off as a film maker
when it came to promotion?

Likely Response:
When I first started I found it very difficult to get my ideas out there as there is a lot
of competition in the industry, however I used advertising methods to try and
promote my video and they successfully reached out to the market through social
networks and other sources.

Question: Have there been situations when your method of promotion hasnt worked
as well as you expected? If so what do you think went wrong.

Likely Response:
Yes they have worked as well as I expected but I have experienced some issues
relating to production because its hard to choose the right companies for producing
the films.

Next Question: Social media, especially Facebook and Twitter have been very good
platforms for promotion over the past few years, this is mainly because you are able
to search and target people based on their interests like the topic of a film. What are
your thoughts on the massive growth of social media and how it has become easier

Likely Response:
I think that the expanding areas for film access will provide big opportunities for
companies to promote films, as they are more personal and accessible to the
general audience so I think its very good that it is progressing.

Next Question: So would you say that right now, social media is the best form of
promotion or are there other forms that you prefer?

Likely Response:
To reach to the younger people, social media is the best format but companies and
people should still consider using television because a wide variety of the audience
will most likely see it on other platforms.

Question: Out of the three films you have made, which one did you enjoy making
the most and why?

Likely Response:
I really enjoyed making the first film the most because it was a whole new
experience for me making my own film and I did not know what to expect, in the end
It made me look forward to making the next one.

Next Question: Are you planning on creating any new films in the near future?

Likely Response:
I am planning on combining all my three short films together and making a full
length feature film, but I may make more short films after because I enjoy directing
them.

Next Question: Finally, for people at home who are thinking of make a film and
promoting it themselves, could you give them any advice to help them along?

Likely Response:
Try and get some good connections because promoting the film can cost and this
way you will have links to producers who can advertise the film or get some other
connections to producers to help promote it.

Segment 3 Charles talks to Andrea. Question: So, Andrea I understand youve

been a film studies teacher for over 10 years now. You must have a huge
knowledge of the film industry. So as a lover of film did you get a chance to watch
the Oscars?
Likely Response:
Yes I did, I watched it live and enjoyed the whole process.

Next Question: What did you think of the winners and were there any shock wins for
you?

Likely Response:
I thought the winners disserved thee Oscars because the nominations were
fantastic, there were some winners witch I did not expect to win but all in all I think
they chose well this year.

Next Question: Recent press have stated that OSCARS academy is an all-white
Do you think this is fair to say?

Likely Response:
I think that at the moment there is an issue with race in America and the Oscars are
no exception to this issue as they still are perceived as choosing predominantly white
actors.

Question: Do you think that more black actors and actresses should have greater
involvement in the OSCAR nominations or should it still be based on the talent of
the actors and actresses regardless of race?
Likely Response:
It should be based on talent regardless of race or gender, however I believe at the
moment they are being bias towards white males.

Next Question: Al Sharptons response to the Oscars all white nominees was that
The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher it gets the whiter it gets
what is your take on his response?

Likely Response:
I believe there is a certain hierarchy that is going on in the entertainment business
for race so I believe this statement is accurate to a certain extent.

Next Question: Can you think of any roles/ Actors who should have won an award
but didnt because of their race?

Likely Response:
I believe possibly Will Smith should have won an Oscar for his great leading roles,
however Will Smith is yet to win any Oscars.

Question: Moving away from the ethnic controversy. It seems that more English
actors are being nominated and winning than ever before. Why do think we are
winning these awards now?
Likely Response:
I think its because the boundaries between American film and British film are fading
as the British films seem to be working just like American Hollywood movies.

Next Question: British films are starting to move away from the kitchen sink genre
and more towards the typical Hollywood style of film making do you think that this
is why our actors are winning more?

Likely Response:
It is likely because as the films become more American, the award show process
will start to develop in the same direction witch alters the way we nominate our
actors.

Next Question:
As a film teacher do you enjoy teaching British or American films more?

Likely Response:
I enjoy teaching British films more because there isnt a stereotypical format for the
story that plays out in most American films, providing some variety in the industry.

year as it stood out very well, it has also been getting a lot of respect from film
critics.

Question: Although it has got a good response by many, some people have
described it as a safe film just designed to get awards and say it also doesnt really
giving the amazing story justice? Do you agree with this?
Likely Response:
I think they did play the safe game with this film however this helped in gain many
awards so I think it paid off in the end.
