Big Project Narrative
What value did the planning cards and the peer and open lab TA evaluations have
for your project?
For this project, we were assigned to make notecards planning out all of the slides
that we were going to include in our PowerPoint. Each planning card had to represent one
slide, and my goal was to have more than 60 planning cards made. These planning cards
were extremely helpful because before we even started on the project, we already had the
whole entire project planned out; all I had to do was copy the information from my cards
onto my PowerPoint. The cards were helpful and I am glad that they were required to do,
otherwise I would not have done them and then when it came to actually making my
PowerPoint I would have to think of the information as I went along.
The TA review that I attended was extremely helpful as well because it was good
to have a second opinion on my project. There were several things I needed to fix that
otherwise would not have gotten fixed without the TA review. The TAs have much more
experience with this project than I do, so they know what to include or what to add or
what to take out, etc. Overall all of the planning cards and the TA review were very
helpful when creating this project!
What have you learned about the instructional planning process based on the
completion of this project? What value did the planning cards and the peer and
open lab TA evaluation have for your project?
I have learned that when creating a large project, lesson plan, or activity, there
needs to be plenty of additional planning. The process is so much easier and simpler if
you plan everything out, and then simply copy your information that you already planned
out onto your project. I have learned that planning ahead is necessary when becoming a
teacher. Lesson plans are important when wanting to organize all of the material, and
planning cards are important when wanting to organize all information before creating
projects or activities for your students.
Which of the ISTE standards for teachers have you addressed through the
development of this project? In what ways have these standards been met?
The standards that I addressed through creating this project are standard number
2: Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments, number 3:
Model digital age work and learning, and number 4: Promote and model digital
citizenship and responsibility. For standard number 2, the fact that we created an
interactive online PowerPoint displays digital age learning experiences and assessments.
By creating this interactive PowerPoint, I will help the student not only learn the material
but learn how to use online resources including PowerPoint. For standard number 3, by
using an online resource for teaching purposes instead of using the classic chalk and
chalkboard or lecture displays modeling digital age work and learning. Because of the
increase in technology in this day and age, learning digitally and online has become more
common and students need to be taught how to use technology for educational purposes
which is what this project showed. For standard number 4, by using this online resource

we are teaching the students how to use an interactive online resource and how to learn
the material individually. It teaches them responsibility without them even knowing it!
Overall the project was very useful and will be useful for when I have a classroom of my
own someday.
