Chapter 8

1. Cassie pretends to be Lillian Jeans slave for a month calling

her Miss and then one day she takes her to a place in the forrest
alone and beats her up and tells her that if she tells anyone about
it she will tell everyone all her secrets.
2. Lillian Jean did not expect a little girl to be so smart to come
up with such a plan of revenge.
3. Mr. Granger got Mrs. Logan fired because of the family
shopping in Vicksburg. He used the excuse that she was not
teaching what was in the books. I think Mr. Wellever did not
help her because he knew if he did, he would have been fired too.
4. Because ever since she was a little girl all she wanted to do
was teach.
5. The Logan kids find out that it was T.J. who told the Wallaces
about Mrs. Logan covering the books, and that she was telling
everyone not to shop there. I think he did it because he was mad
that he failed her class again. The Logan children were mad but
Stacey did not beat him, he said what was coming to him was
worse. T.J. was scared and denied everything.
Chapter 9
1. His new friends are R.W. and Melvin Simms.
2. Jeremy told the Logan children that his brothers make fun of
T.J. when he is not around. I guess even though T.J. betrayed him
Stacey still cares for him.
3. Mr. Logan insists on taking Stacey because he wants him to
learn about everything he does in case one day he is not around.
Mrs. Logan protests because she is scared something bad might
happen now that the Wallaces are threatening people.

4. Stacey said he thought the Wallaces attacked them. I think it

was to stop them from bringing what they bought from Vicksburg
to the other people.
Chapter 10
1. He blames himself for Mr. Logans broken leg because he
wasnt strong enough to hold the wagon.
2. Because he knew that Kaleb was not going to move it and to
avoid having to get into a fight in front of the kids.
3. He doesnt want to leave the Logans because he knows they
are in danger and he wants to protect them. That tells us that he
is a very honorable man.
4. Because if they went to the police Mr. Morrison would be
accused of hurting white men and sent to chain gang.
5. Uncle Hammer sold his car and borrowed some money to help
pay the mortgage on the land.
6. He was wearing a suit and a tie and he had an arrogant
attitude. He came to show off his friends to his old friends but no
one paid mind to him. Stacey felt sorry for T.J. because he knew
the Simmses were not really his friends and T.J. did not even
notice.
