Summary
This is a standard teacher's edition textbook with lots of different
ideas on how to plan each lesson. It shows how to incorporate all
of the standards in creative ways.

This book has extra assessments, listening maps, and various

interpretations of songs such as in sign language! Also has
Broadway interpretations for kids.

This book is a children's sing along book to a lot of the classic

children's songs. It has the melodies along with the
accompaniment.

In this sing a long book, there are several classic Disney songs
along with their accompaniments and a CD. More volumes are
available for more songs

This sing along book has several classic songs that can be taught
to numerous elementary aged students mostly suitable for grades
1 through 5. It also has somewhat easy accompaniments for the
not so piano inclined teacher.

These 3 story books are a great way to teach kids all about the
treble clef and it incorporates all types of music into the lesson.
There is jazz, blues and even some classical music mixed in to tell
each tale of Freddie the Frog.

This piano book teaches students how to play from the ground up.
It is simple and easy to follow with lots of energetic songs and
illustrations.

This loose leafed book has some wonderful theory worksheets

working with both the piano and the staff. It works on rhythms as
well as note names and how to place the notes on the staff.

This book has several fun worksheets that drill the students on
note names, rhythm, and even ear training! It also teaches the
students how to write the different types of rests and all of the
musical symbols.

This book not only gives several examples of songs to use in class,
but in between all of he age levels it gives a synopsis of what each
age level should be able to do. I think this is a great quick refresher
for teachers if there is a some reason their class is unable to grasp
a concept in the classroom. It can help the teacher distinguish if
they are just too young, or if there is a different way they should
be teaching the concept.

This book has several ideas for the music classroom that are
mainly focused on what to add to the music such as props and
movement. It is definitely a way to keep the students engaged and
a way to give them some control within the lesson.

This book is an introduction to famous composers and their music.

It gives a brief overview of the periods and the composers with the
periods. It then gives a few examples of each composers pieces. It
goes all the way from Baroque to Mid-Century music. Each section
also has related activities

This book has several rhythm games for the classroom from simple
to complex rhythms. There is a corresponding CD with lively music
for the students to follow along with. There are several levels,
some of which are very difficult!

This book was before the 1995 cutoff, but it was just too good to
pass up! This book is all about finger plays and funny rhymes. It
shows exactly what to do when what words are being said, so
easy!
This book is designed specifically for grades Pre-K through 2. It
involves a lot of instrumentation as well as singing along with a
lively CD.

.This book starts teaching recorder from the ground up. It builds
from simple to complex and is very animated and fun. It also
teaches the students about rhythms and time signatures.

This book is a highly motivated method of teaching recorder to

students. It teaches the teacher how to properly teach the
recorder, how the students to play individually, and in groups.

This CD has 3 fairytales accompanied by songs. Each story starts

with an introduction, followed by an instrumental version of the
story, the story , and then some questions.

This is the listening map software that comes with the Spotlight on
Music book series. It has several listening maps to go with each
grade.

This website has several different ideas of how to create your own
multicultural instruments for cheap! There are also corresponding
lessons to each instrument.

This website is dedicated to teaching piano, but I found several

activities that I could adapt to my classroom. Most of these were
from her piano Olympics. There were several games that would be
fun for the students that would be teaching them without teaching
at them.

This website has several links to Music Education websites for all
aspects of music like theory, ear training, listening lessons, and
lesson ideas for each grade.

Opinion
I personally like the Making Music series of
books for the suggestions they give for
each lesson. I do enjoy Spotlight on Music,
but I like the way that Making Music
separates each part of the lesson and
gives at least two different concepts to
teach in each lesson. I also enjoy the
variety of music, and how the book is
categorized by genre.
I think this is a great resource for the
classroom because it gives different
perspective to the songs already in the
book, as well as tools to make the lessons
more interactive. I also enjoy that it gives
the opportunity to teach the students
Broadway songs since that is often not a
choice in elementary teachings.
I absolutely love this Song book. It has
been one of my favorites since I was a
child because of the variety of songs it
offers. The songs are commonly known
tunes that children love and also have easy
accompaniments so I as the teacher can
focus more on their singing than playing
along. I think it is a great book for a time
filler if a lesson goes faster than expected,
or if the kids just need a quick pick-me-up
for the day.
This is also a great song book because
every child loves Disney songs. I think
these are a great adaption to the actual
song and would be great for the
elementary classroom.

I think this is a great book to have in the

classroom to introduce students to classic
songs they may not be too familiar with. I
think this is an important thing to do
because after all, they are classics! This
book has pretty average accompaniments
so it is good for me as a teacher to assess
their singing.
These story books are FANTASTIC! Each
part of the story is associated with a note
on the staff, and at the end of the lesson
there is a review, which has them relate
the story to the notes on the staff so they
are learning note names without just being
drilled. There are also several activates at
the end of the book to play along with the
CD on instruments like 12 bar blues, and it
has them associate it with a chord
progression which is GREAT! I am in love
with these books and would love to use
them in my classroom!

This is how I learned to play piano when I

was a kid, and I thought it was an
extremely easy, and well thought out
process. I personally love the way he
teaches and progresses throughout the
books, and if I were asked to teach piano in
my class, I would teach my kids from his
books.

I think this is a great beginners theory

practice book, and would be great for my
young students. The sheets arent too
overwhelmingly long, and have some fun
illustrations. I think it solidly teaches the
students the beginning theory of music and
is a great start to their learning.
I really like this theory book for the fact
that it explains the lessons at the kids
perspective. It also does not just focus on
notes and rhythms, but it has ear training
as well which I think is very important. I
also like that it has some fun activities that
the kids think are just crafty and fun, but
really it is teaching them how to write
musically.
I think this is a great teacher resource for
the sheer fact that it psychologically as
well as physically explains what students
should be able to do at what age. I know at
some point I will forget certain things and
this will be a great refresher and since it is
so concise and well put together it will be a
fast resource. It also has great examples of
songs to work on certain concepts in the
classroom. Overall a fabulous resource.
This book has so many great motivational
inspirations. Along with almost every song
there is a craft, dance, play, or movement
activity to keep the kids engaged. It also
has some great multicultural ideas and
overall is just a great inspiration for music
educators! I think this book will just bring
life to the classroom which is one of my
main goals as a hopeful future elementary
music educator.

I think this is a great resource for teaching

the students about composers in a fun way.
It relates other parts of history to each era,
and has a lot of the most common pieces
related to each composer. The activities
are also engaging and fun for the students.
This is the most entertaining composer
book I have come across.
I think this is a great rhythm book! Each
chapter builds upon the previous skills and
has a review of the previous skills all while
teaching new skills. I think this is an
entertaining way to teach students the
different types of rhythms without just
beating them out on the chalkboard.
I think every elementary teacher needs a
good finger play book and I loved this one!
There were so many funny, short , and
entertaining plays that I knew would be
great when waiting in line, or if I need a
quick attention getter. Great book!
I personally like this book because all of the
songs are about promoting positive
feelings in your students. At this age, that
is an important thing to instill in your
students. This also has lesson plans
planned out step by step, so if a sub was
needed, the students wouldn't just have to
watch a movie, but the substitute could
follow along with the CD and actually teach
them something.
I like this book because it starts by just
teaching one note at a time. It doesnt
overwhelm the students by having them do
rhythms and a ton of notes at once. It is
also very illustrated to keep their attention.
I also enjoy the variety of songs. I think
students learn more when they have to
eventually play a song they do not know,
and this book provides that.

I think this method is so great! There are 9

different songs in the book that relate to a
"belt ceremony." If the student passes the
song, they move up the level of belts from
white to yellow all the way to black. The
way they do this is just by getting a
different color of ribbon at the bottom of
their recorder. I think this is such a good
motivator for the students rather than just
learning the fingerings just for class, this
way they want to succeed! I would
definitely use this method in my classroom.
I find this CD great because it helps the
students put instruments to a story. There
are small pictures in the front of the CD
case that relate each instrument to the
characters and main props in the stories. I
think this series of CD's would be great for
listening lessons and showing how music
really can tell a story. I think the company
did a great job by using stories the
students already know so they can already
start to relate the instruments to the story,
such a great resource!
I think having the listening maps on a
software program is great because they are
interactive and much more entertaining
than just the overheads. I think listening
maps are a great resource in listening
maps because it is a visual for students to
follow along with which keeps them
engaged and since these are animated, it
is even more entertaining.

I think this is a great website because not

all schools will provide the music program
with enough money to buy all of the
classroom instruments needed. I personally
think students need to experience all types
of instruments so being able to make my
own would be a great alternative!
I personally think this is a great website for
classroom activities. There were so many
ideas that could be related to composition
and improvisation, which we all know are
much needed! All of the activities were
super cheap and simple, yet seem so
effective. Definitely a must try!
I think this a great resource for the days
that a sub plan is need quickly, or if you
are just blanking on a lesson, or just need
an idea! There are several good links that I
looked through that look helpful and
motivating. A great collaborative site.
