    Wondering1:LittleknowledgeabouttheHolocaust
    TheHolocaustwillalwaysbeoneofthemosttragicandhorrificeventsthattookplace
    throughouthistory,thatmuchIdoknow.InallhonestyIhardlyknowanythingaboutthe
    Holocaust.Hundredsofbookshavebeenwritten,documentaries,bothtelevisionandmovies
    havebeenmade,thefamousUnitedStatesHolocaustMemorialMuseum,andsomuchmore.
    TherearesomanysourcesthatcaneducateusabouttheHolocaust.Yetthroughoutmywhole
    threeyearsofmiddleschoolandfouryearsofhighschoolIhaveonlylearnedaboutthe
    Holocausttwiceinschool.
    SadlytosayIknowverylittleabouttheHolocaust.TheonlytimeIlearnedaboutwhat
    tookplacewaswhenIwasinhistoryclass,andwhenreadabookinmysophomoreyearofhigh
    schooltitled,NightbyElieWiesel.Inthebooktheauthorexplainshisunimaginable
    experienceintheconcentrationcampswithhisfather.ThatbookissomethingthatIwillalways
    beabletorecallduetothehorridimagerytheauthordescribes.ButIamthankfulthathewrites
    suchdescriptions.Thismakesmeseewhattheauthor,ElieWieselsawthroughhisowneyes.At
    suchayoungagehewasseparatedfromhismostofhisfamilyexcludinghisfatherandthenhad
    towitnessandexperiencetheseinhumaneeventsthatnevershouldhavehappened.
    FromwhatIrememberfromthediscussionsinmyhistoryclassalsoduringmy
    sophomoreyearisthattheHolocausthappenedduringWorldWarII.AdolfHitler,theleaderof

    theNaziParty,wasadictatorthatwasabletorulethesepeoplethatfollowedhimandbelieved
    inwhathewasdoing.IcannotrememberwhyhechoseJewsoriftherewasevenareasoninhis
    headthatmadehimthinkthatwhathewasdoingcouldbejustified.ButwhatIdorememberis
    thatAdolfHitlerhadthisobsessionwithblueeyedandblondhairpeople.Whatwasevenmore
    weirdisthathewasfarfromlookinganythinglikethat.AlsofromwhatIrememberAdolfHitler
    basicallyinitiatedthestartofWorldWarIIfirstbyhavingGermaninvadePoland.Bythetime
    hewasgettingreadytobecaptureforhiscrimesAdolfHitlercommittedsuicidewithhiswife.
    UnfortunatelythisisalltheinformationthatIcanrememberofwhatIlearnedinmy
    sophomoreyearofhighschoolabouttheHolocaust.Butthroughoutmyyearsofmiddleandhigh
    schoolIwonderwhywedidnotlearnmoreabouttheHolocaustinschool.Inaddition,inschool
    weonlybrieflywentoverbothWorldWars.Ithinkthatweshouldhavebeenabletolearnmore
    abouttheHolocaust,readmorebooksaboutdifferentpeoplesexperience,oratleastwatcheda
    movieortelevisionprogram.Iamdisappointedinthelittleteachingsinmyyearsofschoolof
    theeventsthattookplaceintheHolocaust.
    YetIalsohavemyselftoblamefornotknowingmore.Ichosetoonlylistentowhatmy
    teacherssaid,followedalongwhenwereadinclass,completedtheassignmentsontime,and
    thensoonforgotabouttheclassalltogetheronceIfinishedthecourse.Ifailedtotryandlearnon
    myowntimeabouttheHolocaust,WorldWarII,andhistoryingeneralbecausehonestlyatthe
    timeIdidnotwanttodoanyresearchonmyownifitwasnotschoolbasedrelatedthatwould
    determinemygradeinaparticularclass.IamashamedthatIthoughtthatwayinthepast,but
    nowIamtryingtolearnmoreabouthistoryandtheeventsthattakeplaceinthepresent.Iliketo

    beinformedaboutwhatisgoingonintheworldorwhattookplaceinthepast,andthatiswhyI
    lookforwardtolearningabouttheHolocaustthroughoutthissemesterinthisclass.
