Anticipatory Set (1-3 minute focusing )Attention Signal

Attention Signal

My attention signal is to simply tell the students to listen

up. I may have to repeat it a couple of times and then tell
them, I have something to tell them or something along
those lines. When separating the students into groups I will
tell them that they are not allowed to move until the tower
tells them to move. That they are to take all directions
from the tower and that I am the tower.

Anticipatory Set

The students will be placed into groups during this time.

Explaining the rules and tempo of the game starts the lesson. The rules
should be written so that all students can see them and they should be
explained or taught until all students have an understanding of the
expectations.

Information is
delivered in 3
different ways.
1. Written

15mins

Start the game by arranging students into teams of four or five players or
half the students into two teams. Determine the sequence in which teams
will play. Have each team appoint a captain who will act as the team's finaldecision maker and spokesperson. The teams will write their answers on a
small dry erase white board or on sheets of notebook paper to prevent
cheating. If the students answer correctly the opposing teams have an
opportunity to answer.
After the teams are organized, prepare to pose the first question of the
game (or appoint a student emcee to pose questions). The captain of each
team will be the only one who can answer the question. Read aloud the first
question and allow the timer to run out. When the timer runs out ask all
captains to turn show their answers simultaneously. To earn points, that
captain must correctly answer the question. Members of the teams are
encouraged to talk quietly among themselves, then they must agree on the
correct answer. The captain serves as spokesperson for the team and will
annotate the answer on the white board or notebook paper. If the captain
says the correct answer, his or her team earns the points. If the answer is
incorrect, the opposing team has the opportunity to answer for the same
amount of points.
The team that correctly answers the question earns the first chance to
answer the next question. An incorrect answer passes the question to the
next team. A correct answer earns more points for the team and the first
chance to answer the next question. The team can keep earning points until
team members get a wrong answer or do not respond within the time limit.
At the end of the game, the team with the most points is the winner of
"Classroom Jeopardy."
