Welcome Happy Morning

VU 161

Welcome, happy morning! Age to age shall say,

Hell today is vanquished, heaven is won today:
Come then, True and Faithful, now fulfil your word,
This is your third morning: rise, O buried Lord!
*Passing of the Peace
*The Call to Worship:
Jesus is the true vine. We are the branches. People of the
loving vine-grower, we gather here to seek God's care.
Open your hearts: let God's spirit tend you, let God's word
cleanse you, let God's commandment of love abide in you,
let us avail to the loving attention of our God and be fruitful.

*The Opening Prayer:

Loving God, we come together to reconnect with you, the
source of love. No one has ever seen God, but here,
connected to one another, God lives in us. Grafted again to
the taproot of love in this time together, we strengthen
ourselves to reach out like branches bearing good fruit to the
world. Abide with us in this time, O God, so that we will
continue to abide in love now and always, offering this
prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven...

*Response: Your Work O God Needs Many Hands

VU 537

Your work, O God, needs many hands to help you

everywhere, and some there are who cannot serve unless our
gifts we share.
Because we love you and your work, our offering now we
make; be pleased to use it as your own, we ask for Jesus
sake.

*The Prayer of Dedication:

God longs for all of us to live bountiful lives. We share these
gifts from the bounty with which we are blessed, in order that
they may be a blessing to others. AMEN!

*Sung Blessing:

Go Now in Peace

Go now in peace, never be afraid,

God will go with you each hour of everyday.
Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true.
Know he will guide you in all you do.
Go now in love and show you believe,
Reach out to others so all the world can see.
God will be there watching from above,
Go now in peace, in faith and in love.

Theological Education and Ministry Support

The Power of Food

Preparing for ministry can include opportunities to work in a community
ministry. An Emmanuel College, Toronto, student who took a course in
Care and Community reflects on her urban placement:

Fresh dough is slapped, stretched, and rolled out by one set of hands
before an apron-clad boy carefully spoons tomato sauce onto the
crust. Someone else sprinkles on shredded cheese and freshly
picked basil. A young woman standing ready with a long wooden
paddle expertly slides the pizza into the wood-fired oven. Minutes
later out comes the pizza, ready to be shared with the diverse and
chatting crowd gathered in the backyard of The Stop Community
Food Centre.
What began as a food bank in this urban Toronto neighbourhood has
transformed into a social and educational food hub for all ages. In
addition to the popular outdoor brick oven, The Stop has an industrial
kitchen where hands-on after-school programs teach kids the skills to
grow and cook healthy foods. New and expectant mothers on low
incomes connect with one another while learning about pre- and postnatal nutrition for themselves and their babies. A weekly Good Food
Market provides affordable fresh produce to supplement the canned
and dry goods offered through the food bank.
By providing an inclusive space where community members can
gather, cook, eat, and learn about food together, The Stop strives to
increase access to healthy food in a way that maintains dignity, builds
health and community, and challenges inequality. The Stop is also
one of many community partners where theological students from
Emmanuel College learn, experience, and practise ministry in the
urban context.
Our gifts for Mission and Service help support our theological schools
and students. Thank you, and please join me in giving generously.

Mighty and tender God, our gifts to M&S help your church
to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with you.
