Abode Executive Grant
Executive Director Adobe Grant Foundation
123 Adobe Street Atlanta, GA 30116
To whom it may concern:
Millennia Elementary School is delighted to present this grant proposal for your
review. We look forward to utilizing Adobe products in order to embed interactive
technology software into our gifted classroom. Millennia Elementary School is
currently piloting a 1:1 device program with the use of Google Chrome Books.
Students have been provided with the devices, but lack software and resources for
digital storytelling, digital communication, online presentations, online simulations,
demonstrations, quizzes, and scenario-based learning materials that will help
teachers differentiate instruction for gifted learners. In addition, teachers lack the
knowledge necessary for integrating technology into the classroom.
During the last year, students and teachers have become familiar with usage of the
Chrome Books, but they need additional software such as Adobe Presenter, Adobe
Captivate, and Adobe Premiere Elements. These products would provide for a
variety of technology-based learning opportunities for our gifted students.
While we have seen increased engagement and lower behavioral issues with all
students due to the technology integration, the use of Chrome Books in the gifted
classroom has not shown a significant impact on reading, math, and science scores.
Our proposal requests 30 licenses for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Presenter, Adobe
Captivate, Abode Premiere, and Adobe Echosign, as well as professional
development for teachers in order to equip gifted students and teachers with the
technology resources needed for an enriched learning experience.
We appreciate Adobe in taking an interest in helping our students develop their
technology skills through the utilization of Adobe Products.

Thank you,
Allison Gersonde

Needs Assessment
Millennia Elementary School (MES), a K-5, Title I, 1:1 device school, serves 1,100
students from Orlando, Florida. Over 88% of the students at Millennia Elementary
considered Economically Disadvantaged and At-Risk students. Of the 1,100
students at Millennia, 30 students in grades 4 and 5 have been identified as gifted
learners. These students need to be challenged and provided with differentiated
instruction.
Although MES students have technology-rich classrooms, based on a home survey,
over 70% of the students at Millennia do not have access to technology at home.
While MES takes full advantage of Google Apps for Education as well as other free
educational resources, students and teachers lack access to new and innovating
storytelling software, online simulation software, and the scenario-based learning
materials that the Adobe products would provide for. This has a detrimental impact
on gifted learners. These students need enrichment and a variety of learning
opportunities. In addition to the absence of software resources, there is a lack of
professional development for teachers.
The Adobe Grant would provide for the additional resources that is essential to the
growth and knowledge expansion for the gifted learners as well as the professional
development that teachers need. The grant would provide for more interactive
learning, use of multimedia, and would develop the technological skills that the
gifted learners currently lack and ultimately impact students reading, math, and
writing competency.
The Adobe Grant will address the following critical areas of need:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Increased student opportunities to design and develop simulations

Development of storytelling projects by both teachers and students
Development and application of scenario-based learning materials
Development of students online communication skills
Expansion upon students opportunities to view and create digital
presentations

Goals and Objectives

As a result of being granted the funds for these products, it is the hope of Millennia
Elementary staff and students that the following will be achieved:

Increased student engagement as depicted on student surveys

Higher test scores in reading and math as depicted on state test scores
Increased teacher competency with Adobe product technology skills as
depicted on teacher surveys

Narrative
Problem Statement
Gifted students at Millennia Elementary school do not have access to the software
they need to enrich their educational experience. Having access to and the ability to
utilize the Adobe applications will provide students with opportunities to expand
upon learning of content while integrating engaging technology concepts.

Methods
Upon retrieval of the grant, teachers will be administered professional development
in order to become comfortable with using the applications for instructional
purposes. Following professional development, teacher and student pre-surveys will
be administered to identify perceptions of how well technology integration is
affecting instruction and learning before implementation of the Adobe applications.
As soon as teachers are trained and surveys are completed, teachers will begin
introducing students to the applications and using them for instructional purposes.
Eventually, the applications will become a part of the daily routine. Students and
teachers alike will use all of the applications for educational purposes. At the end of
the school year, students and teachers will complete a post-survey which will
indicate how teachers and students feel about the Adobe application classroom
integration. In addition to the post survey, student standardized test scores will be
analyzed and compared to the previous years scores.

Outcomes
It is expected that as a result of implementing the Adobe applications project,
gifted students in grades 4 and 5 will demonstrate increased engagement as
indicated on student surveys. In addition, the students will have increased
standardized test scores in comparison to the previous years scores. Finally, it is
expected that teachers will be more effective and experience increased competency
in using technology for instruction. Effectiveness and increased competency will be
identified by both increased test scores and teacher responses on post surveys.

This estimate includes 30 licenses for the Adobe Creative Cloud Application
Products. The following products are included for each license:

Adobe
Adobe
Adobe
Adobe
Adobe

Photoshop Elements
Premiere Elements
Presenter
Captivate
EchoSign

Professional Development Sessions for Teachers $1,000.00

This estimate includes five separate professional development sessions for teachers
to include training for each of the products included in the Adobe Creative Cloud.
The instructor would be paid approximately $200.00 per daily session, which would
total $1,000.00.

Evaluation
In order to evaluate how this initiative has impacted our students, standardized test
scores will be analyzed from the 2014-2015 school year and the 2015-2016 school
years. It is our hope that the engagement and differentiated learning opportunities
that the Adobe educational experience will provide will in turn increase students
reading, math, and science skills and knowledge. In addition to analysis of test
scores, student and teacher surveys will be conducted both pre and post Adobe
integration. Surveys will inquire upon student and teacher opinions of how the
Adobe products impacted the instructional experience.
