(8) Focus (brief description of where you see yourself in five years and after the Army (long-term end-state .approx 5 -20 years)
To perform at my full potential in service to superiors, peers, subordinates, my family, and myself until retirement in five years with 32 years of service. My focus during this period is
increased emphasis on ethical behavior among senior leaders, the prevention of sexual harassment in our ranks, and assisting our Soldiers in making the tough transition from combat
operations to the peacetime garrison environment. Personally, I hope to combine the high level of technical training, leadership ability, and real-world experience gained from military
service with civilian professional certifications and academic degrees in order to continue serving my nation in positions of greater responsibility and influence. I aspire to be a positive
role model for my seven children and to lead by example in demonstrating that they can achieve any goal with hard work, determination, and proper moral and ethical behavior. It is my
strong desire to be an active member of my community and to make real and lasting contributions toward the betterment of our society. Ultimately, it is my desire that the culmination of
all my life efforts to include service to my nation, dedication to my family, life-long learning, etc. be above reproach and persist as an example for others to emulate.

STUDENT INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN (IDP) (users guide)

Objective: Provide a model and working tool for students and advisors.
Background: The IDP is modeled after
Army leader development. It has four
components: Focus, Goals, Objectives, and
a Program. The focus defines the individuals
long-term end state. It recognizes future
requirements and may reflect a professional
philosophy and vision. Goals are mid-term
milestones in pursuit of the end state.
Objectives define near-term steps toward the
goals and focus on measureable behaviors
(Academic and personal while attending
USASMA). The program translates objectives
into concrete activities with completion dates.
The model at right depicts the
development of an IDP.
