placed on the ground every court (first
free throw line, half court, and second
free throw line). When students approach
a polyspot, they are to crossover dribble
(switch hands). When they reach the
other side, they must touch the line and
and run back toward the starting point,
again switching hands at each polyspot.
Students are to sit down when they have
gone.

2 min. Set Induction:
Yesterday you worked on dribbling the
basketball. Today we will work on passing.
There are three main types of passes in
basketball? Who knows what they are?
Chest pass, bounce pass, and overhead
pass. Chest pass cues: athletic stance,
fingertips, step, extend, follow through.
Bounce pass: same as chest pass but ball
bounces 2/3 way toward target.
Overhead pass cues: athletic stance,
overhead, extend, follow through.

Purpose:
Basketball is one of the most popular
playground sports. Basketball helps with
balance, coordination, and other motor
abilities that can develop skills in other
games or activities.
1 min. Transition
Students will return to homebase, sit
down, and wait for further instructions.

10 min. Lesson Core - Task 1:
Basketball passing: Students will find a
partner or be assigned one. One student
will be on the homebase line and the
other student will be standing about 10
feet away. I will demonstrate each pass to
a student at the center of the line so all
students can watch. Students will be
spaced apart appropriately. Students
standing on homebase will get a
basketball from me, return to their spot,
and place the ball on the ground next to
them until I say to start. The students will

perform the passes in this order: chest
pass, bounce pass, and overhead pass.
Appropriate practice time will be allowed
for each pass. Between each pass, I will
tell students to freeze and place the ball
down. I will let them know to move on to
the next type of pass.

Demonstration Plan:
I will demonstrate one pass at a time. I
will have 2 student demonstrations for
each pass to ensure quality of each pass.

Questions to Check Understanding
Which pass touches the ground? Bounce
pass.
Which part of the hand is used to pass a
ball? Fingertips.

Adaptations
Regression: Student steps forward closer
to partner.
Progression: Students steps backward
away from partner.

Transition
After the activity, students will sit at
homebase and wait for further
instructions.

Closure
I will review each pass and have students
demonstrate them. I will review dribbling
as well if theres time. Then I will let the
students know whats going on for
tomorrows lesson.
