left, rebound, dribble, shoot the ball, etc.
The goal here is to have students moving
and shuffling their feet for correct
footwork and movement while following
the ball.

Set Induction:
This is our last day of the basketball unit.
We have gone over dribbling, passing,
shooting, rebounding, and defense. We
will go over some defense and do an
activity that involves all of the skills. But
first, lets review the skills we learned.
What part of the hand is used to dribble
the ball? How many types of passes are
there in basketball? What are they? What
are the cues for shooting a basketball?
What is a rebound and why is it
important? How does one play defense?
All these questions are essential for the
students cognitive knowledge of the
skills.

Purpose:
Basketball is a very popular sport and its
important to know how to perform the
basic skills because the skills can translate
into other sports.

Transition
After the instant activity, I will have the
students on homebase and let them

own partners. Starting off at homebase
(sideline), one student will be offensive
player and one student will be the
defensive player. The offensive player will
dribble in a zig zag motion crossing over
(switching hands) and moving forward
towards the other sideline. The defensive
player will stay in front of the offensive
player as best as he/she can. When both
students reach the other sideline, they
will switch roles.

Demonstration Plan:
I will demonstrate how to play defense
against another student who will play
offense. Then Ill have 2 students
demonstrate as both the offensive and
defensive players.

Questions to Check Understanding
What do you do as the defensive player?
Stay in front of the offensive player.
Should you be flat footed? No, but on
your toes.

Adaptations
Regression: Dribble to other sideline
without defense.
Progression: 2 people on offense and 2
people on defense.

Standards I, II, and IV because
students are using their
knowledge to play defense, use
footwork, and predict where
the offensive player is going.

Transition:
Students will return to homebase, sit
down, and wait for instructions for the
next activity.

Lesson Core - Task 2:
Cumulative basketball activity Students
will be divided in half. There will be 3
colored polyspots next to the basket, each
a certain distance away. The closest
polyspot is 1 point. The furthest polyspot
is 3 points. The polyspot in between is 2
points. Students will line up behind the 3
point line. The shooter will stand on the
polyspot of their choice. A rebounder will
retrieve the ball and pass it to the next
person in line. That person will then be
the shooter. The original shooter will be
the new rebounder. Teams will add up
their points.

Demonstration Plan:
I will explain how it works and
demonstrate it with 2 students. I will
demonstrate as the rebounder. I will
instruct the students and tell them where
to go and what to do as they perform the
demonstration.

Questions to Check Understanding
What happens after you shoot the ball?
You become the rebounder.

If youre the rebounder, who do you pass
it to? The next person in line.

Adaptations
Regression: Only 1 or 2 polyspots instead
of 3.

Progression: Include a dribbler into the
mix. The rebounder will pass it to student
on the side who then dribbles and hands
off the basketball to the next person in
line.

Transition: Students will assist in
collecting equipment and putting them
away. Students will return to home base
for lesson closure and sit quietly.
CLOSURE:
Review:
Today is the end of the basketball unit.
We learned many skills during the last 2
weeks. Can someone tell me something
they learned? What was the most difficult
skill to do? Did you think you improved
your skills?
