What is Copyright and Fair Use?

The Copyright Act gives copyright holders the exclusive right

to reproduce works for a limited time period. Fair use is
a limitation on this right. Fair use allows people other than the
copyright owner to copy part or, in some circumstances, all of
a copyrighted work, even where the copyright holder has not
given permission or objects. (Teaching

are easy to use where you can create
different types of citations: APA, MLA,
Chicago, Turban, and more.

What About Fair Use?

Fair use is a concept embedded in U.S. law that

recognizes that certain uses of copyright-protected
works do not require permission from the copyright
holder or its agent. These include instances of
minimal use that do not interfere with the
copyright holder's exclusive rights to reproduce
and reuse the work. (Copyright Basics: Fair Use,
Par. 1)

The Teach Act

The objective of the Teach act
(President Bush 2002) is to secure
distance education by accreditation

Instructors may use a wider range

of works in distance learning
environments.

Students may participate in

distance learning sessions from
virtually any location.

All participants enjoy greater

latitude when it comes to storing,
copying and digitizing materials.

Dont Forget!

Creating Citation in text is not too hard

to do! So why not?
Its breaking the law to use someone
else work, so why not?
You would want credit for your work, so
why not?
