MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

PART A: Teacher will show example video made using movie maker to spark interest and ideas for a project on Georgia
habitats. Students will conduct research using online resources and materials in class as well as outdoor time to investigate.
Students will collect pictures of things in their habitat including plants, animals and other regional geographic information.
Students will be split into collaboration groups to produce one movie per group. Each group will learn how to edit and create
movies using movie maker. Students can use videos, audio, graphics and images they have created and collected through out
project. Each movie will be a maximum of five minutes long and must include music, text and images. Students will share what
they have learned about each habitat of Georgia. Class will vote for the best movie to be published on the classroom blog.

different organisms and the dependence of organisms on their habitat.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: What learning standards will be addressed? Sciences
lesson on Georgia habitats. What will students and teachers do? Teacher will introduce topic, teach
lesson on how to use movie maker, explain goals of project and guide the student directed projects.
How will the project be introduced? Project will be introduced by students watching a sample product
of Georgia habitats movie maker clip. How long will it take to complete? Project will be conducts over
several weeks. How will student work be assessed and by whom? Students will votes as a class for
best movie to be published on classroom blog. Also, teacher will assess each video for correctness in
information about habitats.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?
Which indicators of Engaged Learning are strong and why? This will be a LoTi 5 because students will publish
a technology product at the end of the project. Engaged learning is high with creativity sparking high order thinking and
student directed activities.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could
the project be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other
types of technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience?Movie maker will help
present each project quickly yet engage learning in stimulating environment. Without using movie maker, say using
posters or power point, students may become bored and not reach for higher levels of engagement.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet
safety and student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain
how youd minimize risks to students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and
follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy. Teacher must supervise all research conducted via internet
including content on habitats and images collected. All projects must keep students privacy by not disclosing names and
other information such as location of classroom. Teacher must check that permission forms of students pictures and
works have been signed by all parents before publishing any work to the classroom blog.
