ROI Return on Investment

by Matthew Walsh, CDT

One thing that has kept me involved in CSI over the years is certification. Not only is it a good way to get a better understanding
of our industry, its a real inexpensive education. When I was going through the CDT program, Bob Dye came in to present on a
portion of the material, and he addressed the group and told everyone, forget the three little letters you get to put behind your
name, this is a lot of really good, useful information. That always
stuck with me. Every year I relay that to potential CDT candidates, and I mean it.
That being said, I am abusing my powers as president and using
this space to let everyone know of a few upcoming certification
events.
Starting 6/1 I will be holding a CDT exam study group for the fall
exam, and we will run a CCPR study group concurrently.
-The CDT session shall run from 7:00-8:30
-The CCPR session shall run from 8:30-10:00
Please reach out to me directly to coordinate.

CSI FELLOW
RETIRES

CSI Fellow Wiley McMillan retires May 2015. Wiley has served our industry with integrity and
honor for many years. Employed by National Gypsum Company since 1973. Wiley has provided
the industry with many years of undeniable professionalism. Wiley joined CSI in 1994 and became a
Fellow in 2007. Wileys mantra What is the Value , if it isnt going to add value to the chapter,
the membership or the community, there is no reason to proceed. This mantra is the epitome of
Wiley McMillian and his caring attitude. Wiley has numerous well deserved accolades, too many to
list in this newsletter. He is highly respected by all his colleagues, friends and family.

Wiley, we are honored that you chose to be a member of the KCCSI Chapter, you have made us
all better and we wish you well.

Let us know what you are into, send us vacation photos or selfies. We are interested in our members.

Sarah Hirsch, CSI, CCS, LEED AP, BD + C

BNIM
Kansas City, MO

Sarah graduated with her bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Kansas. Shes worked in the industry for 25 years now. The majority of those years have
been with BNIM, where shes currently at, but she also worked for Craig Patterson &
Associates before that. BNIMs main focus is designing commercial projects in higher
education, performing arts and government work.
Sarah joined CSI about 3 years ago and finds the industry camaraderie to be the biggest benefit to being a part of the organization. Shes also involved with other organizations in her personal time, including Girl Scouts and The St. James Catholic Church.
Her husband, Dan Nash, and her have been married for 17 years and have 3 children:
Eleanor (15), Kate (13), & Leo (11). Outside of work, Sarah enjoys gardening, sewing,
knitting, home improvement, yoyo playing, & homeschooling her 3 children. While her
husband might like her to be a bigger sports fan than she is (like most husbands out
there), she considers herself enough of a Kansas City sports fan at this time of the
year to say, Go Royals!
