Project

Introduction: Students will come up with a business of their own and decide what they sell and what
they make to maximize profit (Must be school appropriate!). The items that their business makes and
sells must be realistic and they will gather information on the materials needed and the means of
production. They need to have two examples of systems of equations representing their business model
and one system of a linear inequality. Students must solve these systems in different ways.
Groups: Students will be in groups of 4 - 5 depending on class size. Depending on class behavioral ability
they may or may not choose their own groups. Each person in the group will be assigned a specific task
out of the following choices: Poster designer/coordinator, Information acquirer/coordinator, Systems
Specialist, Procedure/Rule coordinator, Team Worker (only if you have 5 in your group). If groups want
to come up with their own roles they must have them allowed by the teacher.
Poster designer/coordinator: A person who will help the team create a creative poster that captures the
audiences attention and contains beneficial mathematical application.
Information acquirer/coordinator: A person who will help the team organize and gather as much
relevant information on their items of choice.
Systems Specialist: A person who will help the team to build dynamic systems to help them use math to
maximize their profits for their business.
Procedure/Rule coordinator: A person who will help the team make sure that the group is keeping in line
with the rubric and getting the best grade that they collectively can get without that person being
disrespectful.
Team Worker: A team player who helps each person fulfill their role the best they can.
Rubric: If students want more clarified instructions they are allowed to ask teacher.
