for improvement

SUMMARY- I repositioned the role of research and academic integrity. Then I redefined the
Librarian as a personal assistant whose purpose is to connect people to the information
they need to be successful. I modeled initiative and leadership, taught professors and

adult students and designed memorable, experience-based classes. I transformed the

Library into a vibrant, functioning hub of support for students and teachers and expanded
services to meet the needs of the campus. More importantly, I learned to communicate in a
corporate setting and respect colleagues sensibilities.

VOLUNTEER ART TEACHER/ RESEARCHER |GLOBAL VILLAGE ACADEMY

NORTHGLENN | SEPTEMBER 2011- MAY 2012
Designed a curriculum that layered cognitive complexity into art-themed participatory experiences
Delivered the curriculum to 350 elementary-aged students
Observed the students ability to absorb the intricacies of the lessons and generate their own ideas

SUMMARY- I used a multi-disciplinary approach to design a curriculum to teach thinking

through art. The curriculum synthesized research from philosophy, cognitive science, and
education fields into one effective, engaging program. I learned to negotiate angry
teachers (related to scheduling and lost sessions), behaviorally challenged children and
rapid-succession-project deadlines.

MONTESSORI TEACHER |SELF- EMPLOYED | SEPTEMBER 1996- MAY 1997

Used the materials I created during the teacher certification process to equip a classroom in my
home
Successfully marketed and opened a preschool in a questionable neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois
Delivered presentations, directed learning, motivated students: taught students to read
Learned to manage a budget, time and parents

SUMMARY- The endeavor was not profitable enough to continue long-term, but it informed
my love of learning about learning. The students were capable and brilliant. They
confirmed my urgent mission of seeking answers to foundational questions: How much
information can a person absorb? What is the best way to help people discover
information? And more recently: What is technologys role in learning?
