Climate

Pattern:

The dry summer subtropical climate dominates central and southern California. The range
of temperature is not wide through a year. The stable atmosphere leads to cloudless
situations, so in summer California develops less precipitation, high illumination intensity
and temperature.

Process:
The dominating factor, which forms the dry climate in the summer, is the changing effects
between the high pressure in summer and Westerlies in winter. Due to expansion of
subtropical high, subsiding air produces steady atmospheric circumstances, and maritime
tropical air masses and cT air masses play important roles in summer. For winter, the
Westerlies becomes a main influence instead of subtropical. Mid-latitude cyclones, which
are caused by invasion of mT, mP and cP air masses, bring more precipitation during the
winter.

Climate of United States

Lat: 50.01 Lng: -129.99 Lat: 50.01 Lng: -68.99

Lat: 28.30 Lng: -129.99

Scale: Line Interval=10

Lat: 28.30 Lng: -68.99

Pattern:
As we can see from the map, there is a pattern showing that the climate of Western United
states overall can be categorized into the semi arid to arid climate, whereas the climate in
the Eastern part of United States is humid and no dry season.

Process:
The high pressure of Bermuda Anticyclone can have an effect on the climate and weather
Eastern United States. It will result in more precipitation and atmospheric moisture since
the warm and humid surface air will be flowed from the Atlantic Ocean. The reason of the
eastern part is more humid is that the rainfall is evenly distributed through the year, and
the most precipitation of the United States is concentrated in the eastern part. As moving
from the east to the west, the precipitation is declining according to the research. The
western part is classified as semi arid to arid weather is because the precipitation is only
around 15 to 20 inches through the whole year.

Climate of North America continent

Lat: 69.96 Lng: -169.80 Lat: 69.96 Lng: -49.57

Lat: 19.97 Lng: -169.80

Scale: Line Interval=10

Lat: 19.97 Lng: -49.57

Pattern:
According to the climate layer, its obvious that humid cold climate takes possession of a
majority of regions in the North America. The west of America is almost the only place in North
America continent has the climate of dry seasons.
Process:
Canada is at higher latitude than where the United States is. The place that is closer to the
equator will be warmer than the place is father from the equator because more sunlight will be

received if the location is near the equator. Thus, the north part of the North America continent
will be colder than the south part. And the most regions in the North America are at higher
latitude, so the climate layer shows the humid cold climate. The reason why the west America is
the only place that has dry seasons in North America is that the mountain ranges in the western
United States prevents the moisture air from the Pacific Ocean coming in.
