Assessment Plan

Overview
The students will be given a pre-assessment to see how much the
students understand the material before it is taught to them. There
will be several formative assessments used during this unit to help
direct instruction. Every day I will observe the students as they work
independently and in pairs to see where there understanding is. They
will also be given three classwork assignments that will be completed
independently and turned in for a grade. There will be one quiz on the
unit. All of these assignments will be used to determine the level of
understanding the students have for the material. The summative
assessment will be a test on all of the material that was covered in the
unit. This test will serve as the post-assessment and will reveal the
improvement each student has made since the beginning of the unit.
Only one student in this class has an IEP; the accommodation received
is extra time on assessments. The student was given the opportunity
to take extra time on the classwork, quiz, and test but was able to
complete the assignments in the time given.

Pre-Assessment
The students will be given a twelve question multiple choice worksheet
that covers all three sections that will be covered in this unit. Each
student will be asked to work independently to answer each question
as best as they can. The worksheets will be graded based on the
points, where each question is worth 8 points. This will allow me to
see what kind of understanding the students have of the material prior
to me teaching them the unit. Having a multiple choice assessment
will give them an opportunity to apply their previous knowledge, if they
think to do so, in order to solve the problems and make connections.

During Assessment
31. The main assessment used during the unit will be observation.
As the students are learning the material I will ask questions and have
them work on example problems with a partner and alone. As the
students work, I will walk around and observe the mistakes they make,
answer questions, and keep track of the progress they are making with
the concepts. I will also give them a classwork assignment for each
section covered in the unit. Each classwork will be completed
individually and turned in for a grade; they may also use their notes to
complete the classwork. The grades will be based on a point system
with each question is worth six points. The first classwork assignment
consists of sixteen questions and assesses objective 1. The second
classwork assignment consists of sixteen questions and assesses
objective 2. The third classwork consists of sixteen questions and
assesses objective 3. They will also be given a quiz that covers all
three objectives of the unit. The quiz is 20 questions with each
question worth 5 points. Partial credit will be given for some of the
questions, depending on the mistake that is made. Each of these
assessments will help me see how well the students have learned each
concept, which will tell me whether I need to spend more time on
something than originally planned.

Post-Assessment
492. The students will be given a test on the three sections covered in
this unit, which will serve as the post-assessment. The test consists of
thirty questions each worth three points. The answers will be checked
using an answer key. Some of the questions may receive partial credit
depending on the mistake that was made. An example of this would
be if a student has the incorrect sign (positive or negative) one point
will be deducted for each wrong sign. I will review all of the students
work in order to see if they understand the method in how to find the
correct answer; this will allow me to see whether or not they
understood the material.
