Physical Education Reflection
The Physical Education frameworks are designed to ensure that all students gained the
skills necessary to succeed. The framework provides the skills and knowledge that students are
expected to meet at each grade level. These standards are set for what students should know and
can do. There is a strong emphasis on the development of fundamental locomotor, nonlocomotor,
and manipulative skills. Students have the opportunity to experiment all these skills by using age
appropriate activities. Content mastery does not occur simply because students participated in a
particular activity, but it comes from the well thought out lesson. The framework states mentions
that modifications should be made for students with special needs.
The classes that have prepared me for teaching Physical Education are the following:
KIN 425 and KIN 447. My KIN 425 prepared me by giving me the foundation necessary to teach
in an elementary school. I feel that through peer teaching I gained many valuable techniques to
teach in my future classroom. I also learned about nutrition. I learned how important it is to
motivate students to eat healthy by using the food pyramid. KIN 447 prepared me how to do a
physical education lesson plan which includes an introductory activity, lesson focus, and a cool
down activity. In this class, I have learned many fun activities that I can integrate in my
classroom, how to quickly divide the class into two groups, about how to use special
modifications with students with special needs, and also how to teach physical education in a fun
way.

The area of physical education that I feel well prepared in teaching students about
locomotor, nonlocomotor, and manipulative skills. For example, I feel prepared in teaching
students the basic skills of stretching, jumping, galloping, ect. I also feel well prepared in
teaching students the topic of nutrition. Explaining students how important is for their bodies to
have a healthy diet. The areas of physical education that I feel less prepared are in teaching
students sports. I have never being an athletic person; therefore, I have a limited knowledge
when it comes to sports. In order to be well prepared in this subject I plan to take more
kinesiology classes that are related to sports in order to prepare me better to teach this subject.
The artifacts that I would include in my portfolio are my physical education lesson plan
and my physical education philosophy. The lesson plan and my philosophy demonstrate my
ability to teach this subject without any difficulties.
