CAMP MARANATHA
Maranatha Recreation Camp is located on the Sunshine Coast, South East
Queensland, Australia. Established in the 1930s, Maranatha has earned a
reputation as one of the finest recreational camps in Queensland.
The Camp has a large range of adventure based learning activities run by
professionally trained facilitators, and plenty of facilities on site to keep our
students at SFC engaged and entertained.

How will we get there?


Students will be travelling to and from camp by bus. If your child
regularly suffers from travel sickness can you please ensure they have the
necessary medication before coming to school.
We will be travelling on two, 56 seater buses that have seat belts and a
DVD player for entertainment.

Activities
Students will be participating in a range of activities that will test
their confidence, endurance and communication skills.

Activities Mid Ropes


The Mid Ropes course reaches
eight metres in height.
Students will use harnesses and
other equipment to remain safe
whilst challenging boundaries
and encouraging others.

Activities Challenge Trail


All students need to do is follow
the rope trail through bush land
to a secret location in the
campgrounds. Each team will
need excellent communication
skills to stay together and move
effectively through the course.

Activities Pool Sports


In Camp Maranathas huge
sparkling blue 25m pool,
students will take part in a
variety of team games and
problem solving exercises.

Activities River Rafting


Students will use tyres,
rope, wood and
lifejackets and work
together to build their
very own raft, developing
communication skills
and encouraging
teamwork as they find
ways to paddle across
Wappa Creek.

Activities River Ropes


The River Ropes course is
specifically aimed at primary
school age participants. It is
located on the upper bank of the
South Maroochy River,
overlooking the pools and
rapids. It comprises ten spans of
cables belayed traverses,
punctuated by rest stop
platforms up to six metres
above ground.

Activities Bridge Building


Students will learn square and
diagonal lashing and how to
tension ropes and follow a
briefing to construct a Burma
Bridge strong enough for their
whole group to climb across.

Activities Bush Craft


Students will learn to build a
bush shelter, light a campfire,
boil a billy for bush tea and
make campfire damper to eat
with jam. Students will also
learn about the local
environment including the
seasonal bush tucker of the
area, the native animals, trees
and birds.

Activities special needs


Students with special needs and differing levels of ability can
participate in many of the activities.

It is IMPORTANT that all contact details you give us,
especially mobile and home phone numbers are current
and active.

Medication
If your child is currently taking medication please ensure you
supply enough to last for three days.
Medication must be in a plastic glad bag, clearly labelled with your
childs name and dosage amount.
Panadol and Paracetamol must be supplied by parents/caregivers.
If you want your child to bring Panadol or Paracetamol to camp you
must ensure you give consent for us to administer it. This consent
can be found at the bottom of your childs camp Medical Form.
Please ensure all panadol/paracetamol tablets are put in a plastic
glad bag with your childs name on it.
Miss Howie will be in charge of administering and looking after all
medication.

Emergencies
In case of an emergency where a student is injured and needs to be
taken to hospital, a teacher will contact the school office and the school
office will contact parents / caregivers. If an emergency happens outside
school office hours teachers will contact parents directly.
If a student becomes seriously ill, teachers will contact the school
office, the school office will contact parents/caregivers. Parents/caregivers
will need to collect their child from camp. If a child falls ill outside school
office hours teachers will contact parents directly.
If parents/caregivers need to collect their child from camp due to
an emergency situation, parents/caregivers must contact the school office
and the school office will contact the students teacher at camp. If an
emergency happens outside school office hours please ring the camp.

Technological Devices
No technological devices will be allowed at camp.
When students bring such devices they risk the
possibility of them being broken or stolen. Please
support us in ensuring none of these devices are
brought to camp

Depending on reception at Camp Maranatha we will respond to emails once a


day.

PACKING
Students can become quite excited when
packing their bag for camp and end up
bringing half their bedroom with them.
One suitcase or large sports bag is more
than enough to hold your childs clothing.
Please do not go out and buy new clothes,
old clothes are the best and please name
all your childs clothing.
Enclosed shoes MUST BE WORN when
doing all land based camp activities.
A list of what your child will need to
bring was attached to your childs camp
forms, if it has been misplaced there is a
copy of this form that you can view on
our Weebly site.

Lollies
Each student is allowed to bring one bag of lollies
ONLY, no other junk food, including fizzy drinks
and energy drinks will be permitted.

Behaviour / Expectations
It is expected that all students attending camp adhere to the rules of our
school and Camp Maranatha.
In serious circumstances where students choose not to follow these rules
and put the safety of themselves and others at risk they will be excluded
from camp activities or returned to school.
