Service Topic Relevant to Research
I did my service hours at Seacoast Youth Academy. Seacoast Youth Academy is a group
home for kids in DSS and DJJ custody. The reason I chose to do my service hours at Seacoast is
because since my mom opened it I came to realize a lot of the kids living there were there for
drug related problems. When I was there for my senior project I realized how big of a problem
this really was. When talking to the boys side of the group home out of fifteen boys every single
one of them was there because of troubles with drugs. I was about to discuss with them the
struggles they faced with drug use and what their families went through during that time. I left
knowing there way much more to learn about my topic and this was the right place to do so.
