Autobiographical Summary

Since I can remember, I have known all along that I should be a teacher. I
remember growing up and playing teacher with my sister. Looking back, I was
always volunteering after class to help my teacher grade papers or clean the
boards or anything they needed help with. When I was 13 years old, I started
volunteering during the summer at R.H. Dana Exceptional Needs Facility. I would
help the teachers in any way possible. For example, I would assist the kids with
assignments and supervise them on their field trips. When I was 18, I applied for
a job as an instructional assistant. I was an instructional assistant for 11 years
while I was going to school to earn a Bachelors degree as a sign language
interpreter. Currently, I am an interpreter at a middle school where I facilitate and
communicate the language to my students. I re-teach concepts that the students
may have not understood fully; I assist the teacher in the classroom when I can.
I have been told my entire life to become a teacher, now is the time for me
to become a teacher and be the leader of my destiny. I know that through my
teachings I will reach the students the same way I have been doing currently and
make the connections necessary for learning. Now that I am attending Vanguard,
all of the teachers at school know I am working towards my credential and
encourage me to teach the whole class under their supervision. When any of the

teachers are absent, the lesson plans includes my name and they tell the
substitute teacher to use me as a resource because I know what I am doing.
My parents, siblings, boyfriend, coworkers currently at my school and in
the past (Lori Brown, Debbie Wilson, Linda Puckett, Susan Peterson, Maryl
Lincoln, Kira McNeill, Mike Kashima, Jay Parry, Sharon Miller, Kellie Young, and
Marian Hartje) are all my support team and biggest cheerleaders. If all of them
have faith in me that I have what it takes to become a teacher, then I know I am
making the correct decision.
