Right to health essay

Eric Garman
The United Nations, or UN, has laid out its idea of Social, Economic, and
cultural human rights. These are the rights that every human is born with and and is
allowed to see throughout their lifetime. These are simple rights that the human
deserves for prosperity. The UN listed these rights and is seeing to it that every
nation follows through. These rights include the right to eat, the right to shelter, and
so on. One of these rights is the right to healthcare. The UN is not pleased because
of Russias inability to follow through with this right. When UN leaders visited Russia
to check on things such as drug prevention and so on, they were not pleased. The
UN leaders were concerned with Russias enforcement on the Ban of Methadone and
other drugs and claiming that Russia was behind when it came to healthcare.
Also, the UN is concerned with how Russia treats its HIV and AIDS situation.
They have large concerns about their needle and syringe programs and their safety.
When it comes to opioid substitution therapy the UN declared that Russia needs to
make legal adjustments in order to improve their current program and they need to
allow drugs and needle and syringe programs in order to help these patients who
need healthcare. Also, they issued the need for legal grounds when it came to
overdose prevention programs. Overdose prevention is a key part in a humans right
to healthcare. He purpose for these programs is so people of Russia do not give up
their belief in the idea of the right to health and the United Nations has issued out
monitors to see to it that these jurisdictions are upheld in Russia.
Russia is in trouble. Its healthcare system is one of the worst and it is getting
worse by the day. Its life expectancy is 10 years lower than the average country in
the Middle East. Russias programs and outlook on healthcare is not a good one
unless a change is made. The history of healthcare in Russia is a complex one.
Russia once had free healthcare during the Soviet era and during communism.
When democracy came, a new system came into place which was only inefficient.
Also, this system was costly and many could not afford it. When the free market
economy was developing in Russia there was hope for a new healthcare system for
once but it would not come. Even after many revisions and many reforms there still
wasnt a high enough emphasis on Russian Healthcare and the Russian peoples
right to health. To this day Russia does not have a proper system in order to make
certain prescriptions affordable and many facilities even lack the supplies to keep
Russian people healthy. Finally, Russian doctors and nurses lack the education
needed to help people in the first place. The care for mental health is also weak.
With their enormous suicide rate, the people need some sort of prevention program.
As issues arise it seems that the right to health in Russia is a weakening idea.
