To Whom It May Concern,
I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Alexis Banks. She is a mature,
responsible, and very bright young woman. She is confident, strong, yet sensitive.
Alexis has always challenged herself in the most difficult courses we offer. I believe this
is because she wants to excel at everything that encounters. Her determination and drive will get
her through any difficult situation. Her senior schedule is a difficult one, in that she is taking
three AP courses. This is not the first time Alexis has taken an AP course, and she is also taking
dual enrollment courses through Lawson State Community College. With a 4.25 GPA, Alexis is
on target to be an honor graduate. In Jefferson County, instead of having valedictorians &
salutatorians, we designate all seniors as honor graduates who have a 4.0 GPA or above, and who
have earned the highest academic diploma we offer.
Alexis is very well liked amongst peers, teachers, and administrators. Earning the trust of
peers, she has been a leader on the schools dance team. For many years, the dance team has
participated in the United Dance Association (UDA) competition at Spain Park where they have
won 1st place and the American All-Star competition where they also won 1st place in the State.
From this experience, she gained valuable skills. As Alexis dance coach, I have witnessed her
hard work and I commend her for never complaining. She has encouraged and inspired others
by her work ethic. This, I feel, is a crucial aspect for success in the coming century. During her
high school years, Alexis has been involved in the National Honor Society, SGA, Cross Country,
HOSA, and has served as a school ambassador.
Not only is Alexis very involved with school activities, but also she takes time to
volunteer and helps with many community service projects. She has collected can goods, toys
for tots, participated in caroling for the local nursing home, and has donated school items to
teachers each year. She also has worked at the Birmingham Water Works for the past two
summers. As you can see, Alexis is very well-rounded!
I have gotten to know Alexis extremely well the past three years, serving as her counselor
and also her dance coach. She is very reliable, polite, and a born leader. I will miss Alexis next
year. She is one of the few students who relate to adults with confidence, courtesy and openness.
She would be a wonderful recipient of this scholarship and I am confident she will succeed in all
her endeavors. She is truly indomitable!
Sincerely,
Brooke Self
